Job Responsibilities
- Develop accurate and timely cost estimates for new injection molding and assembly business from customer provided information using Viant costing tools and engineering knowledge.
- Analyze prints, solid models, specifications and other information to determine the most cost effective process to manufacture molded components and plastic part based assemblies.
- Supports improvements to the quoting process to increase our win rate and overall team efficiency.
- Identify appropriate Viant manufacturing sites for new business.
- Communicate with the targeted sites engineering and leadership teams to determine lead times, NRE costs, capacity availability and capital expense requirements.
- Determine Viant capital investment required and resultant payback.
- Support proposal development for targeted opportunities.
- Determine customer funded NRE and capital required.
- Work with the sales and key site team members to determine optimal price point that maximizes Viant profitability while offering competitive pricing that enables Viant to win new business.
- Leads the approval for quotes based on revenue level, production site and customer. Includes interaction up to CEO, CFO, COO and CCO level to optimize Viant approach.
- Represent the organization as a key technical contact for molding opportunities through participation in customer meetings as needed to explain our approach, solicit critical information, and collaborate with the customer to deliver a solution that meets their needs.
- Possess strong expertise in injection molding tooling, equipment, and processes, and collaborate closely with other Viant SMEs to develop differentiated, winning business solutions.
- Support Viant quoting process adherence to maintain accurate quoting records, may include training of sales team members on the process and forms required
- Must have a strong understanding of injection molding production.
- Must be proficient with Solid Works for part analysis to develop accurate cost models (part weight, projected area, DFM review)
- Ability to accurately estimate cycle times, runner weights, scrap rates, labor needs, machine type / size, automation options, etc.. for proper cost estimating
- Strong cost accounting acumen
- Ability to interface with suppliers to obtain pricing for resin, packaging and other purchased items required to develop a quote
- Strong communication skills that enable positive customer communication to instill confidence in Viant’s approach and to pull required information as needed.
- Must have a strong understanding of financial analysis tools to develop Return on Investment models
- Must be highly organized and able to multi-task in a busy environment
- Must maintain attention to detail and be highly accurate with figures
- Must be able to manage time and work within sensitive deadlines
- Must be able to prioritize without supervision
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office – Excel and Outlook
- Preferred to have experience in quoting plastic components in IQMS
- Preferred to have experience in BOMs in IQMS
- Must be able to collect all necessary information to properly generate multiple estimates
- Must be able to keep job status top of mind, and complete follow up requirements as necessary
- Must be able to develop material and labor requirements to define the most cost-effective approach to make the product
- Consult with vendors and personnel in other departments to discuss and formulate pricing estimates and resolve issues.
- Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors. Must work well with all types of customers and personalities
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or related field.
- 10 years of experience in manufacturing in the healthcare industry, a minimum of 5 yrs. of experience may be considered with an exceptional performance history
- Strong understanding of plastic injection molding, assembly processes, and related technologies.
- Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, including handling large datasets and creating pivot tables.
- Strong understanding of Plastic Injection Molding & Mold Tooling processes and tooling fundamentals
- Ability to read and understand product design drawings used in the medical device industry.
- Understanding and ability to operate Microsoft Excel, Word office products
- LSR Molding Experience / silicon Molding
- Ability to use Solidworks to manipulate models and drawings to extract information required.
- Experience with IQMS or other relevant ERP/MRP system
- Experience with assembly processes and best practices
- Experience of part inspection systems and automated take-out processes.
- Ability to travel frequently within the U.S. and internationally (up to 25%)
