Job Overview:
VHS Transportation is seeking a Transportation Manager to oversee daily operations of our special-needs transportation services. This role focuses on safety, contract compliance, efficient routing, employee supervision, and strong customer service in a fast-paced, growing environment. Experience is preferred, but we are willing to train the right candidate who is eager to learn and grow.
Salary Range:
$50,000 – $60,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications
Job Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily transportation operations to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant service delivery
- Ensure contract compliance across all districts and programs
- Develop and implement efficient routes across multiple regions in accordance with contract specifications and client requirements
- Assign drivers based on skills, performance, and contract requirements
- Maintain hands-on involvement in daily operations, including time behind the wheel when needed
- Provide emergency driver coverage as required
Leadership and Supervision:
- Supervise and support 30–60 drivers and monitors
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with employees
- Promote good performance through coaching, support, and training
- Recommend reassignment or discipline when company policies or standards are not met
- Reinforce compliance through dispatch oversight and direct observation
Communication and Customer Relations:
- Develop and maintain professional relationships with school districts, programs, parents, guardians, and special needs individuals of all ages
- Communicate clearly and professionally with clients, staff, and stakeholders
- Receive, record, retrieve, and deliver messages accurately and efficiently
- Resolve operational issues while maintaining positive relationships
- Monitor late bus and after-hours transportation as needed
Qualifications:
- Prior supervisory experience preferred but not required
- Flexible and adaptable to changing operational needs
- Comfortable working in a small, busy office environment
- Valid driver's license with a safe driving record
- Willing to respond to coverage needs as required
- Strong technology skills, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, SharePoint), Google Chrome, and Android tablets
- Strong customer service skills
- Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities
- Self-motivated with a strong work ethic
- Enjoys working with children and special needs individuals
- Able to learn programs, contracts, clients, and employees to make sound assignment decisions
