Responsibilities
- Develops engineering drawings, conceptual plans, and exhibits for a variety of projects ranging in size and complexity with limited supervision
- Plans, researches, and produces contract drawings based on constraints defined by the Project Manager, review agencies, and client needs
- Designs roadway based on information, schematics, and calculations developed by Designer
- Determines CAD usage and application on projects
- Recognizes and resolves potential construction conflicts and difficulties identified during design
- Aids in preparation of technical specifications
- Ensures overall consistency, quality, technical accuracy, and design on projects
- Provides CAD mentoring for other designers and engineers
- Effective written, communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills to produce high-quality deliverables in an efficient manner
- Team oriented with strong capability to work independently
- Motivated to lead and mentor others on CAD and drawing production procedures
- Has a persistent initiative to continually learn new technical practices and to earn the confidence of client, company management/colleagues and regulators
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering preferred
- 15 years of experience working on complex transportation projects that involved roadway design, maintenance of traffic, grading, utility design and stormwater management
- Experience in developing and compiling/producing roadway plans, construction documents, specification, and engineering reports
- Experience with GIS Systems is a plus – GIS is one of the tools we use to create better projects
- Proficient in the some or all of the following: AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, Geopak, Open Roads, Microsoft Project, MS Office Suite
- Experience in plan set production for Virginia locality or VDOT transportation projects preferred
