Scope of Position

Pipefitter helpers, also called pipefitter apprentices, assist pipefitters in the installation and maintenance of pressured piping systems at construction sites.

Job Responsibilities

Assist with putting together, operating, managing, and repairing sophisticated piping systems that convey a wide range of liquids and oil products.

Review and train to utilize blueprints to accurately install piping systems.

Take direction from Pipefitter or other related supervisors.

Assist Pipefitters in adjusting, connecting, and installing pipes, ensuring proper alignment and functionality.

Assist in the assembly and installation of piping systems such as ductile iron, PVC, steel, copper, stainless steel pipe, and black iron.

Assist in the testing of piping systems to identify issues and take corrective measures.

Use saws, drills, impact tools, cutting torches, and pipe threaders to cut, thread, and hammer pipes to desired specifications.

Weld, solder or cement joints on pipes and pipe fittings to assemble and secure pipes.

Attach pipes to fixtures, such as tanks by means of clamps, brackets, or welding equipment.

Hoist loads using slings, chains, shackles, hooks, cables, and other rigging equipment.

Work in a safe manner.

Travel as required.

Qualifications

Ability to utilize and operate a range of tools and equipment in installing, maintaining, and repairing pipe systems.

Ability to handle, lift, and move heavy pipes, pipefitting materials and equipment.

Ability to communicate with team.

Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, team members may be required to visit alternate locations and therefore must have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to do so. This position requires the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read application/form information. The team member is frequently required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.
