Job Summary
Provide manufacturing engineering support for the ACRR fuel stewardship team (i.e., welding machining) in support of fabricating nuclear reactor fuel components and equipment.)
Complete conceptual and final engineering designs.
Compile, refine, and publish technical and functional requirements for the designs.
Conduct market research to identify appropriate component, hardware, and tooling vendors, including identifying vendors with appropriate Q/A programs and/or who can produce components for fuel elements under commercial grade dedication (CGD).
Obtain cost estimates and estimated schedules for component fabrication.
Obtain prototype and production components, hardware, and tooling for team inspection/approval, to ensure quality and workmanship of component.
Provide engineering expertise on an as needed basis.
Ensure that design authority representative reviews are performed as necessary to support the project.
Coordinate fabricability reviews in collaboration with the Sandia team supporting this effort.
Collaborate with the ACRR fuel stewardship team, as needed, such as to support hardware designs for monitoring fuel health.
Submit monthly summary describing the month's efforts and outcomes.
Draft technical documents on an as-needed basis.
Review all deliverables with Sandia for final decision/determination on implementation.
Remote with flexibility to travel occasionally to support project milestones.

Additional Qualifications/Responsibilities
Requirements and Education:
Education: Minimum a Bachelor's Degree in Science/Technical Field preferably mechanical engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university and a minimum of 10-15 years of practical work experience necessary to perform the responsibilities outlined above.
Experience: The Engineer for this position will preferably have experience with nuclear work, such as (need not be all inclusive of or limited to the following): radiography, hot cells, use of SolidWorks or related design tools, reactor operations, radiological and criticality work controls, reactor fuel and radioactive waste lifecycles, and/or analysis of reactor concepts.
Good understanding of fabrication and manufacturing is required.
Understanding of welding: Welding processes and metallurgy, Welding codes and quality systems is required.
Experience working in accordance with NQA-1 requirements is a plus.
Ability to obtain a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance.
