As a Senior Field Technician/Diesel Mechanic, you are a key problem-solver in the field, tackling complex diagnostics and repairs on everything from small engines to heavy agricultural and construction machinery. Your advanced mechanical expertise, independence, and attention to detail ensure every repair is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standard. By directly supporting customers and mentoring junior technicians, you play a critical role in maintaining equipment reliability, optimizing performance, and delivering an exceptional service experience.
Responsibilities
Diagnose and repair a wide range of agricultural and heavy equipment, including small engines and John Deere machinery.
Perform field-based service calls with minimal supervision; occasionally support repairs in the shop as needed.
Use diagnostic tools, technical manuals, and software to troubleshoot and resolve mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues.
Communicate clearly and professionally with customers regarding repair needs, timelines, and status updates.
Complete all repairs safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.
Maintain accurate records of work performed, parts used, and service documentation.
Act as a knowledgeable and positive representative of the company while on-site with customers.
Collaborate with parts and service teams to ensure timely and effective job completion.

5–7 years of diesel mechanic experience in a shop or field setting, with proven expertise in diagnosing and repairing agricultural and heavy equipment, small engines, and John Deere machinery.
Strong mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical troubleshooting skills, with the ability to read schematics, technical manuals, and use diagnostic software.
Proficient in assembling, maintaining, and performing field service on a variety of equipment.
Must own and maintain a complete set of professional tools.
Strong computer skills and ability to accurately document work, parts, and service records.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong customer service focus; able to interact professionally with customers, answer questions, and provide updates on repairs.
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
Ability to work independently in the field while maintaining safety, quality standards, and positive customer interactions.
Flexible with work schedules, including after-hours service calls as needed.
Preferred
5 years of experience specifically servicing John Deere equipment.
Familiarity with diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems.
Experience reading and interpreting technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic reports.
CDL or experience hauling equipment with a trailer.
Background in field service work, particularly during peak agricultural seasons.
Proven ability to train, mentor, or guide junior technicians in the field.

Physical Requirements
Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and occasionally work in confined spaces while performing repairs and maintenance in field conditions.
Requires use of hands and fingers to handle tools, operate machinery, perform detailed mechanical work, and exercise manual dexterity.
Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver equipment and parts up to 50–75 lbs., and occasionally heavier with assistance.
Requires close vision, depth perception, and the ability to read schematics, manuals, and computer screens; hearing ability sufficient to communicate with coworkers and customers in person, over the phone, or via radio.
Must be able to work in various environments, including outdoor conditions, uneven terrain, confined spaces, and elevated areas.
Must be able to safely operate company vehicles, forklifts, and other equipment.
