This position is within Student Support Services (SSS), a TRIO program funded by a grant from the U.S. Departments of Education and Labor. SSS serves college students from first-generation, low-income families and/or students with disabilities. The individual in this position will be a primary academic advisor for Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences undeclared undergraduate students who are participants in the TRIO SSS program. The incumbent will also provide general advising and support to undergraduate SSS participants enrolled in other schools within the university. In addition to academic advising, other responsibilities include instruction of SSS Right Start to College courses, curriculum development and assessment, thorough documentation of contacts with SSS participants, organization and management of records pertaining to assigned advisees, planning and implementation of programming that addresses the needs of the students and the objectives of the grant, and referrals of students to pertinent campus resources. Knowledge and understanding of developmental advising is required, along with excellent communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, and organizational skills, familiarity with university systems and grant-funded programs, and a thorough knowledge of the unique concerns faced by these student populations. This position is located in a busy student service area and requires flexibility, energy, and a sincere desire to assist students. This position reports to the Director of TRIO Student Support Services.

Utilizes advanced advising knowledge, theory, and practical experience to serve as an academic liaison for students to identify academic and career goals, select appropriate courses, and plan for degree attainment. Manages small to medium-sized, moderately complex projects.
Essential Functions
Must be able to use a computer and read data. Must be able to type efficiently. Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
Physical Effort
This job is mostly sedentary within an office environment but the ability to navigate on and off campus environments is necessary.
