VIN is looking for a full-time experienced IT Network Engineer for our IT department. The Network Engineer primary responsibility is to assist in the design, development, implementation, testing, and continual maintenance of VIN’s networks to provide required performance and reliable connectivity. They are also tasked with assisting in configuring relevant network assets, establishing protocols, managing upgrades, monitoring systems to prevent downtime and security breaches, troubleshooting issues, collaborating with the IT team and vendors to integrate new technologies, and ensuring compliance with industry standards.

Required Knowledge, Skill And Experience

  • Minimum education (or substitute experience) required: Bachelor Degree in Computer Science or related field
  • Minimum experience required: Minimal 5 year experience configuring and maintaining enterprise business networks
  • Skills required:
  • Excellent and effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Attention to relevant detail
  • Critical thinking skills as applied to applicable goals
  • Ability to self-start, manage time, and meet deadlines
  • Working relevant knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and Adobe Acrobat products
  • Ability to learn other computer software as needed, as well as learn basic HTML coding skills relevant to specific tasks
  • Effective ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Demonstrate professional attitude
  • Basic math: addition, subtraction, multiplication, percentages and basic algebra
  • Strong analytical, written and verbal communication skills to present technical and business information to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Excellent computer hardware skills, including PC and peripheral troubleshooting and repair
  • Excellent software skills, including Windows operating systems, Networking, and Microsoft Office products
  • Active Directory, Azure/Entra, and other Microsoft systems management experience required
  • Preferred virtualization, switching, routing, storage, firewall management experience

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Effectively create, maintain, and protect security of new and existing networks, while considering and collecting information on systems-level project specifications, performance and cost requirements, and known capabilities and limitations.
  • Using mathematical models and scientific analysis to predict and measure consequences and other outcomes of software system design, determine feasibility of proposed system modifications and review and modify existing network software and recommend new software to improve performance, correct errors, and conform with compatibility requirements of available hardware – all while ensuring the needs and requirements of users will be met within time and cost requirements.
  • Manage review, design, maintenance, and troubleshooting of network related resources and systems, including VIN’s phone system, email communications, and network equipment including balancers, routers, VPNs, switches, etc.
  • Using internal and external tools, including monitoring systems, determine hardware system status and limitations by gathering and evaluating information on a variety of factors including security and reporting needs, and develop and lead software system testing and validation procedures.
  • Coordinate, schedule, and ensure timely installation of software, updates, network upgrades, security configurations, and installing patches or service packs.
  • Train and provide training documentation on new and modified systems and networks.
  • Maintain and update documentation for configurations, setups, and known fixes.
  • Maintain and timely post informative daily logs of job activities.
  • Participate, both in person and using relevant technological modalities, in relevant departmental and company meetings, and effectively collaborate with others to review and analyze hardware and software needs.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Location for this position is onsite at the VIN offices in Davis, CA.
    • Telecommuting or any other exceptions to working hours or location require approval
