Resident Assistant – Transitional Housing Program
Status: Full-Time
Schedule: Combination of days, evenings, and weekends
Reports to: Transitional Housing Manager
Hourly Rate: $18.00/hour
Position Summary:
The Resident Assistant (RA) supports the daily operations of the Transitional Housing Program, ensuring a safe, structured, and supportive environment for residents. The RA is responsible for engaging with residents, providing transportation, enforcing program policies, and assisting with case management-related tasks. This position requires strong boundaries, interpersonal skills, and a commitment to supporting veterans in transition.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise resident activities and ensure safety and structure within the home.
- Plan, coordinate, and implement resident activities, including veteran-focused community events.
- Provide transportation for residents to appointments, activities, and housing tours.
- Interact with residents daily while maintaining professional boundaries.
- Support residents in their apartment search and accompany them on housing tours.
- Conduct and document monthly fire drills at varying hours as directed.
- Enforce compliance with the resident handbook and facility visitation policy.
- Ensure facility security at all times.
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors.
- Facilitate weekly house meetings as assigned.
- Attend staff meetings, activities, and work-related events outside of standard hours as needed.
- Assist the Transitional Housing Manager with resident documentation and case notes.
- Respond to and triage resident needs and concerns.
- Conduct room inspections and perform random urine drug screens per directive.
- Ensure all resident interactions comply with HIPAA and confidentiality standards.
- Complete same day admissions as needed under the direction of the Transitional Housing Manager.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a human services setting working directly with clients.
- Valid NYS Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
