Our goal is to be the premier resource for this community as they pursue or advance their careers in project management within the civilian workforce.

VPMMA offers a wide range of mentorship and development programs, specifically designed to meet the diverse needs of our members. These include

  • Mentorship Programs We provide One-on-One, Group, Reverse, Diversity, and Peer Mentorship to offer tailored guidance and promote collective learning.
  • Professional Development Our offerings include customized training materials, skill-building workshops, learning events (seminars, webinars), advanced training, and certification preparation. We also address personal project management skills and entrepreneurship training.
  • Career Transition Support We offer resources and guidance to members navigating career transitions, including support for resumes, access to job boards, and career transition assistance.
  • Community Building We create professional connections through networking opportunities and collaborative learning events.

Role Overview

The Email Marketing Specialist is a tactical support staff role focused on building, formatting, and distributing VPMMA’s digital email campaigns. You will be responsible for translating our organizational updates, success stories, and upcoming learning events into clean, professional email newsletters. This role ensures consistent touchpoints with our vital network of active mentors, mentees, community partners, and donors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Campaign Execution Build, format, test, and schedule high-quality monthly newsletters, community announcements, and automated updates using Mailchimp.
  • Brand & Style Alignment Enforce VPMMA’s written communication guidelines to ensure all email content is clear, concise, professional, and properly formatted with headings and bullet points to maximize readability.
  • Audience Segmentation Assist in managing subscriber lists to ensure targeted messaging reaches the right cohorts, such as transitioning service members or corporate partners.
  • Analytics Tracking Monitor and report basic email metrics (open rates, click-through rates) to help the marketing team continuously optimize audience engagement.
  • Cross-Team Collaboration Coordinate closely with Content Creators, the Social Media Manager, and the PR team to synchronize email themes with broader organizational campaigns.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Mailchimp (Required) Hands-on experience building templates, managing lists, and scheduling campaigns inside Mailchimp.
  • Canva & Adobe Creative Cloud (Nice to Have) Familiarity with asset design tools to assist with minor image resizing or visual layout adjustments.
  • Strong Copyediting Skills Exceptional attention to detail regarding grammar, spelling, hyperlink verification, and mobile responsiveness.
  • Reliability Commitment to dedicating 3 hours per week and consistently meeting publication deadlines.
  • Mission Core A strong desire to support and advocate for the veteran and military spouse community.

  • Commitment Maintain your regular volunteer service schedule and complete assigned digital tasks on time.
  • Communication Notify the marketing team as early as possible if personal or family obligations temporarily shift your weekly availability.
  • Professionalism Adhere to the VPMMA Code of Conduct, treating all members with dignity, respect, and a neutral, positive tone.
  • Confidentiality & Privacy Maintain strict data privacy; protect our subscribers' personal data and secure all proprietary internal information.
  • Compliance Follow all established safety, security, and anti-discrimination guidelines.
  • Legal Note Volunteers are not covered under VPMMA’s organizational liability insurance policy and must obtain personal coverage if desired. Background checks may be required based on the nature of the position.

About VPMMA

The Veteran Project Manager Mentor Alliance (VPMMA) is a 100% volunteer-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting and advancing the careers of service members, veterans, and military spouses. We aim to build a strong, supportive community by equipping our members with essential project management skills, mentorship, and professional development to help them successfully navigate profound career and life transitions.

Within our Marketing Directorate, support staff volunteers are vital to making this impact a reality, amplifying our voice and connecting veterans with these life-changing resources.
