What are the responsibilities and job description for the Field Service Technician -- Healthcare IT (Mobile Workstations) position at Vetcademy Inc?
Vetcademy Inc., a New York State certified Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Business, is hiring a Field Service Technician to support clinical mobile computing at a major academic medical center on Long Island.
This is hands-on hardware work inside a live hospital — maintaining, repairing, and building the mobile computer carts that clinical staff use for patient care every shift. If you've supported IT in a hospital and prefer hands-on problem solving over a help desk queue, this role is built for you.
This position is contingent upon contract award, expected late September 2026.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain and repair a fleet of approximately 800 mobile clinical carts across five hospital locations — medication carts, point-of-care carts, and isolation laptop carts
- Build and deploy new carts: image PCs, mount monitors, install barcode scanners, RFID badge readers, keyboards, and mice
- Monitor and replace cart batteries and power components
- Respond to end-user support tickets from clinical staff
- Maintain accurate, real-time inventory of all carts and their locations
- Manage a spare parts inventory of 1,000 components and flag low stock
- Track warranty items out for manufacturer repair or replacement
- Partner with clinical and technical staff on cart modifications and new peripherals
- Attend meetings as a technology advisor, including with the Patient Safety committee
- Coordinate parts quotes and order tracking with the IT Business Support team
Requirements:
- Minimum 2-3 years of hands-on technical support experience
- Experience supporting the Cerner EMR in a clinical setting
- Hardware skills with HP and Lenovo endpoint computing — setup, configuration, peripherals
- Windows 10/11 imaging, deployment, troubleshooting, and maintenance
- Wireless network configuration
- Hands-on experience with mobile cart platforms — Capsa, Ergotron, and Jaco. No manufacturer certification required; documented working experience is sufficient.
- Must supply your own hand tools — not provided on site
- Able to lift 50 lbs., kneel, squat under desks, and climb a ladder
- Reliable transportation to Stony Brook, NY
Preferred:
- Identity Automation (HealthCast) single sign-on
- BitLocker and Absolute endpoint security and device management
- OS imaging using the Quest KACE appliance
- Prior experience in a hospital or health system IT department
- CompTIA A or equivalent certification
Before starting work, the selected candidate must complete:
- Immunization records per hospital policy
- Criminal background check
- Registration with the hospital's vendor credentialing system
