Our small, multi-practice law firm is seeking a dependable, organized Part-Time Paralegal / Legal Assistant to provide secretarial and administrative support for matters involving personal injury, family law, criminal law, real estate, and estate planning. The successful candidate will support attorneys and clients by managing communications, calendars, court filings, and office records.
Key Responsibilities
- Answer incoming telephone calls, assist callers professionally, and take and relay accurate messages.
- Manage attorney calendars, professional appointments, court dates, closings, and deadlines, and provide timely reminders.
- Prepare and electronically file attorney appearances, motions for continuance, and other routine documents with the courts.
- Monitor court notices and case deadlines and update calendars and files accordingly.
- Open, organize, maintain, and close physical and electronic client files.
- Prepare, format, proofread, scan, copy, mail, and file correspondence, pleadings, forms, and other legal documents at the direction of the attorneys.
- Communicate professionally with clients, courts, opposing counsel, medical providers, lenders, real estate professionals, and other parties.
- Request medical records and bills for personal injury matters, follow up regularly with treatment providers until all requested documentation is received, and organize treatment records for attorney review.
- Assist with client intake, request and organize records, and maintain complete and accurate case information.
- Provide general office support, including filing, mail handling, document management, and maintaining orderly office records.
- Provide secretarial and administrative support for personal injury, family law, criminal law, real estate, and estate-planning matters.
Qualifications
- Prior experience as a paralegal, legal assistant, legal secretary, or in a professional office environment is preferred but not required.
- Strong telephone etiquette and written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organization, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple calendars, deadlines, and priorities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, email, electronic filing systems, and general office equipment.
- Ability to handle confidential information.
- Dependability and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
This is a part-time, in-office position. Familiarity with Connecticut court procedures and electronic filing is helpful, but training may be provided to the right candidate.
Compensation
Compensation is commensurate with experience and will be discussed during the interview process.
