What are the responsibilities and job description for the Outside Sales Representative – Freight Brokerage position at Vertical Logistics, LLC?
About Vertical Logistics
Vertical Logistics is an established freight brokerage with five years of operating history and a strong base of energy-sector freight. We are building our outside sales team and hiring our first dedicated sales rep to grow our third-party customer base.
Why this role is different
- You sell. We cover the loads. This is a sales-only role, and our back-office team handles all carrier sourcing, booking, and tracking. You won’t be dispatching trucks at 9 p.m.
- Built-in oilfield access. Through our affiliated company, we have established relationships with E&P operators and oilfield service companies. You’ll get warm introductions that most brokerage reps would spend years building.
- Real earning potential. $60,000 base uncapped commission on gross margin. $120K at target; top producers earn $200K
- Direct access to leadership. You’ll work directly with ownership and have full operational support from day one.
What you’ll do
- Bring your existing shipper relationships to Vertical and grow them
- Develop new accounts in energy, industrial, and manufacturing freight
- Turn occasional shippers into consistent weekly freight
- Work with our back-office team to quote freight quickly and cover loads profitably
- Track your pipeline and activity in our TMS
What we require
- 2 years of freight brokerage sales experience. Logistics-adjacent roles don’t count; it has to be brokerage sales.
- An existing book of business. You must be able to document your current shipper relationships and freight volume.
- Your current agreements. You must be willing to share any non-compete or non-solicitation agreement before an offer is made.
- Comfortable with outside sales, including face-to-face meetings, site visits, and regional travel
- Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
Preferred
- Experience with energy, oilfield, or industrial freight (flatbed, heavy haul, or specialized)
- Familiarity with TMS platforms
