The Regional Director of School Operations for Texas is a hands-on turnaround leader tasked with a critical mission: transforming our Texas campuses into the network's gold standard for operational excellence and financial discipline. This is an execution-focused role for an operator who thrives on the ground, personally driving rapid improvements in campus safety, facilities management, and process consistency. You will indirectly lead a team of Directors of School Operations through influence and a strong partnership with academic leadership, ensuring they are held accountable to rigorous standards while developing their capabilities. Responsibilities / Essential Functions:
- Influential Leadership & Team Development:
- Coach and develop Directors of School Operations (DSOs) on operational excellence, and leadership through regular on-site visits and one-on-one meetings.
- Monitor campus performance by conducting weekly data-review cadences with each DSO, holding them accountable for key operational and financial metrics.
- Partner with the Superintendent to address DSO performance gaps, co-creating and implementing formal performance improvement plans as needed.
- Provide direct, hands-on intervention to stabilize campus operations during critical incidents or periods of underperformance, modeling the expected standard of execution.
- Coach and support DSOs in strengthening their oversight of facilities and campus operations, helping them build the habits, systems, and accountability needed to meet network standards.
- Partner with DSOs and campus-based staff to support consistent adoption of network-defined facilities systems (e.g., preventative maintenance, work order processes, cleanliness standards) across all campuses.
- Conduct regular on-site visits to observe facilities operations and provide real-time coaching and feedback to strengthen execution quality.
- Reinforce expectations around facilities performance by aligning DSOs to defined standards for responsiveness, reliability, and campus readiness.
- Collaborate with the central facilities team to share field insights, surface recurring challenges, and support continuous improvement of network-wide systems.
- Use data, site observations, and audit results to surface performance gaps and influence corrective action in partnership with DSOs and the Superintendent.
- Financial Management Support & Cost Control:
- Conduct line-item spending reviews of vendor contracts and discretionary expenses to identify and propose execution on immediate cost-saving opportunities.
- Analyze facilities costs, including utilities and maintenance spend, to build data-driven proposals for efficiency improvements and vendor consolidation.
- Operational Execution & Compliance:
- Execute the network's internal audit program across all Texas campuses, ensuring consistent and high-fidelity adherence to safety, compliance, and service standards.
- Train DSOs and campus staff on network operational systems, personally leading remediation efforts in the region's lowest-performing areas.
- Support DSOs and campus teams in translating operational standards into consistent daily practice by identifying execution gaps, providing coaching, and reinforcing expectations through follow-up and partnership.
- Facilities & Vendor Oversight:
- Serve as the organization's subject matter expert for Texas facilities, providing direct guidance on HVAC, building systems, and preventative maintenance.
- Conduct regular physical inspections of all campus facilities to ensure a safe, clean, and well-maintained environment for students and staff.
- Manage relationships with key regional facilities vendors, monitoring performance against service level agreements and holding them accountable for results.
- Guide DSOs in making sound financial and operational decisions regarding campus repairs, maintenance requests, and minor capital projects.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
- 5 years of progressive leadership experience in multi-site operations or school administration.
- 3 years of experience directly managing and developing other managers or leaders.
- Proven track record of managing operational budgets, identifying inefficiencies, and realizing significant cost savings.
- Demonstrated experience with commercial facilities management, including preventative maintenance programs and building systems (e.g., HVAC).
- Experience driving performance and accountability from teams in a matrixed or indirect reporting structure.
- Experience conducting compliance audits and ensuring regulatory readiness across multiple locations.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel regularly between all Texas campuses.
- Master's degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, or Education Leadership.
- Experience working in a Texas K-12 public or charter school environment.
- Direct, hands-on experience managing complex vendor contracts for building systems, HVAC, or climate control in a commercial setting.
- Lean Six Sigma, PMP, or a similar certification in continuous improvement or project management.
- Experience utilizing School Information Systems (e.g., PowerSchool SIS) and safety management platforms (e.g., Raptor Technologies).
- Experience in a turnaround environment, successfully improving underperforming operational systems or teams.
