Supply Chain Manager

The Supply Chain Manager is responsible for sourcing & procuring materials, components and supplies needed to ensure uninterrupted production and minimal inventory levels for our client and their subsidiaries. This is a newly created position and is strategic with the need to build relationships with suppliers along with negotiations of material contracts. This position manages a team of 4 and reports to the CFO and is a critical business need.

Worksite Location: This is an onsite leadership position, located near Alexandria, MN.

Salary: $89k - $143,000, depending on experience

Roles & Responsibilities

• Select and conduct supplier reviews, evaluate capabilities, and negotiate contracts for raw materials.
• Review sales data to predict material requirements and prevent product stockouts.
• Solve real-time disruptions like delayed shipments or vendor capacity constraints.
• Align operational timelines with sales, finance, and engineering departments.
• Manage supplier performance using defined metrics for quality, delivery, cost, responsiveness, lead time and service.
• Monitor commodity markets, inflation, Producers Price Indexes, tariffs, freight costs and other economic factors affecting purchased material costs and use this information to support negotiations and sourcing decisions.
• Hire, train and develop employees in their area of responsibility.
• Supervise and direct the team including conducting annual performance appraisals and identifying goals and metrics.
• Participate in the development of and maintain the implementation of purchasing policies and procedures in accordance with company goals and philosophies.
• Establish and approve sources of raw materials and supplies.
• Secure bids and receive quotations on purchases as needed.
• Maintain a positive working relationship with vendors.
• Keep abreast of changes, developments and new products advise management team of potential applicability.
• Collaborate with Production, Planning and Inventory management to ensure material availability supports manufacturing schedules while minimizing excess inventory shortages.
• Partner with Engineering and Quality to evaluate dual source and secondary source opportunities for alternative materials and components while ensuring product specifications and quality requirements are maintained.
• Create purchase orders with vendors, follow up as needed.
• Receive vendor acknowledgments, reviews, and revisions as needed.
• Research and source custom items.
• Promote client’s mission and values.
• Identify organizational problems and opportunities for improvement and bring solutions and suggestions to leadership’s attention.
• Function as a team member by assisting, supporting, and encouraging other employees in any way possible.
  
  

Required Skills & Experience:

• Bachelor’s Degree highly preferred
• 5 years of related experience, within manufacturing Areas of experience could include buying, procurement, supply chain, inventory planning, or contract negotiation areas preferred.
• Strong negotiation capabilities, cross-functional leadership, and quick critical thinking skills under pressure.
• Proficiency working with ERP system, GSS or Infor/Syteline a plus, Material Requirements Planning (MRP) systems, and advanced data analytics.
• Continuous learner to enhance job performance.
• Ability and interest in managing a team.
