About Vermont Literacy Network
Vermont Literacy Network is a community-centered literacy organization based in Bristol, Vermont. Since January 2024, we have offered structured, evidence-based instruction, programming, and events for readers of all ages. Our work is rooted in the science of reading and guided by a commitment to every person’s right to become a confident, independent reader and writer.
About the Role
Vermont Literacy Network is seeking a passionate and creative educator to join our team. As a Structured Literacy Interventionist, you will lead personalized Structured Literacy Lessons for PK-12 students in both individual and small group settings at our Bristol location, primarily during after school hours.
Through our work, we serve all types of learners, including neurodiverse students with dyslexia, ADHD, ASD, anxiety, and other learning differences. Unlike a traditional tutor who helps with homework, our Structured Literacy Interventionists provide diagnostic and prescriptive literacy instruction using evidence-based approaches such as the Orton-Gillingham method.
Growth Opportunity: This role has the potential to grow into a full-time position as we continue expanding our programming, including daytime opportunities for homeschool families, new clubs and classes, and summer and school vacation camps. For candidates who demonstrate strong leadership, initiative, and a passion for creating meaningful student experiences, this role may evolve into a full-time Director of Student Programming position. If you are interested in discussing either trajectory, please mention so in your email or cover letter.
Role & Responsibilities:
- Lead 45-minute structured literacy sessions in individual and small group (2-5 students) formats, in person at our Bristol location.
- Implement meaningful, evidence-based intervention plans tailored to each student’s unique needs and educational profile. Adapt instruction to accommodate sensory needs, executive functioning challenges, and social-emotional well-being. Assess and collect ongoing progress data to adjust individualized instruction and goals.
- Participate in weekly team discussions on student progress, instructional strategies, and shared learning goals.
- Participate in ongoing professional development through in-house mentorship and external training opportunities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field (required)
- Vermont teaching license (required)
- Familiarity with Structured Literacy, the Science of Reading, the Orton Gillingham Method, and other literacy educational methodology preferred
- Experience working with children in educational settings and adapting instruction to support neurodiverse learners (e.g., ASD, ADHD, dyslexia) preferred
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
Note: Our goal is finding the right fit for our team and community. We actively support educators at all experience levels and will provide coaching and instructional oversight for candidates who are newer to designing or implementing structured literacy interventions.
