Position Title: Parts Sales Representative (PSR)

Department: Parts

Reports To: Parts Manager

 

Vermeer Great Plains – 100% EMPLOYEE-OWNED COMPANY

An authorized distributor for Vermeer equipment in Kansas, Oklahoma, and Western Missouri with five branch locations across the region. A 100% employee-owned company, we provide dedicated sales, rentals, parts, and service support for customers in the tree care, landscaping, wood waste, organic recycling, underground construction, and mining industries.

 

POSITION FUNCTION:

The Parts Sales Representative will maximize parts sales and work to increase market penetration by calling upon existing customers and establish new customer relationships. They will promote the Parts Department operations in a courteous manner which insures customer confidence and maximum efficiency. They are responsible for assisting customers with their parts needs by properly identifying needed items and selling company parts at all times.

 

ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Increase parts sales by visiting and/or calling current customers to sell the company’s products and maintain established relationship
  • Develop leads into opportunities by nurturing relationships, understanding customer problems, involving the correct decision makers, and helping customers understand VGP products
  • Follow up on parts orders and communicate with customers to ensure they are being properly served
  • Remain updated on changes to manufacturer’s terms, discounts, and special programs
  • Stay well-informed on current and incoming inventory
  • Become the customer’s primary contact for questions regarding all VGP parts
  • Maintain a positive and professional working relationship with peers, management, and support resources with a constant commitment to teamwork and exemplary customer service
  • Assist customers by using electronic catalogs or other resources to properly identify items as needed, verify correct parts for machine, price, and availability
  • Enter quotes and/or orders into business system after verifying customer needs and expectations
  • Order and/or pick parts for customers, generate invoices, and collect payments as needed
  • Maintain customer accounts in order to ensure accuracy
  • Receive parts from shipping source and ensure customers receive them in a timely manner by calling the customer, delivering, etc.
  • Maintain parts department vehicle and office equipment
  • Stay current with the latest trends, standards, and skills required within your field and industry by continuously developing through your Individual Development Plans, etc. 
  • Follow all safety rules and regulations while performing work assignments and adhere to policies and procedures as specified in company manuals and as directed in the employee handbook
  • Extensive travel required
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Measure of success determined by established company guidelines, including but not limited to ability to perform the above-mentioned duties, feedback from customers, ability to take guidance and direction from Manager professionally, and execute upon such feedback.

Qualifications:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Must be committed to and take a pro-active approach to our Company Mission, Vision and Values
  • Strong PC proficiency with MS Windows and MS Office Suite; CDK a plus
  • The ability to quickly build rapport with customers and suppliers
  • Sufficient understanding of mechanical and technical terms
  • Good working knowledge of equipment operations and mechanical functions
  • Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail
  • High degree of customer service to both internal and external customers
  • Demonstrated safe work habits
  • Strong ability to adapt to the people and environment around them - customers, suppliers, co-workers, and manufacturer's employees
  • Ability to conduct yourself in a professional, ethical, and reliable manner with minimal supervision
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to communicate professionally, respectfully, and honestly at all times
  • Must be able to lift/push/pull up to at least 50 lbs, stand, walk, use hands and fingers, handle, feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk and hear 100% of the time
  • Ability to be exposed to extreme weather elements, including wet and/or humid conditions, extreme cold and extreme heat regularly
  • Ability to withstand moderate to high noise level in working environment regularly
  • Must be able to work overtime and/or weekends as needed
  • Bilingual a plus

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma/GED or vocational training/certification required
  • 2 years of experience in outside heavy equipment and/or parts sales and 3-5 years of heavy equipment technician and/or parts experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience required
  • Must have a valid unrestricted Driver’s License and ability to maintain one throughout employment
  • Background check, pre-employment drug testing and clean driving record required
  • DOT medical card or ability to obtain one
