Job Description:
General requirements / responsibilities for a PCB designer that we would use
Must have expert knowledge of Altium and standard layout practices.
Experienced with high-speed interface layout such as PCIe gen 4 or higher, DDR5 or higher, USB type-c / 3.2.
Understanding of power integrity and layout to meet plane impedance targets.
Ability to read a schematic, and to assign/modify net classes if required (based on provided drafting guidelines)
Create and Maintain footprint libraries for each project
Help with technology selection for a given design such as HDI vs standard, and associated stack ups for manufacturability.
Help with review of existing footprints
Assembly and Fabrication drawing generation - Familiarity with Altium Draftsman
Ability to generate and validate Gerber and ODB databases against a specific Fabrication house's capabilities list
A basic design flow for a contracted PCB designer looks like this:
Technology selection - stack up, type and size of vias, minimum track geometries
Footprint Review - all layers
Create new footprints if required
Setup Design Rules and Stack up
Detailed placement
BGA fanout(signal and power)
Controlled impedance routing
Routing of uncontrolled signals
Define and connect to power planes
Length matching and cleanup
Add stitching vias, teardrops, and place designators
Documentation and Gerber review
