Description:

This position requires a highly skilled Spotfire (TIBCO) Developer with a strong background in the oil and gas industry. The position will be responsible for independently designing, developing, and maintaining advanced data visualization and analytics solutions. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Spotfire dashboards, data wrangling, R/TERR scripting, and custom visualizations using HTML/CSS within Spotfire’s framework. This role requires both technical proficiency and domain knowledge in oil and gas exploration, production, and operational datasets.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the following satisfactorily; other duties may be assigned.

  • Design, build, and optimize Spotfire dashboards to visualize production, drilling, completions, and operational KPIs.
  • Integrate and manage data sources (SQL Server, Excel, flat files, REST APIs, etc.) using direct connections (import, external, and on-demand) and various data functions.
  • Develop and maintain custom data functions using R or TERR for advanced analytics (decline curve analysis, predictive modeling, statistical summaries).
  • Develop and integrate decline curve analysis and type curve tools.
  • Create custom visual extensions and interactive HTML/CSS components within Spotfire.
  • Collaborate closely with geoscience, engineering, and field operations teams to understand requirements and deliver fit-for-purpose analytics.
  • Implement data governance and performance optimization for large datasets and complex calculations.
  • Automate report generation and data refreshes using Spotfire Automation Services or IronPython scripting.
  • Document and support analytics workflows, data functions, and user training materials.
  • Participate in code reviews, testing, and deployment processes to maintain quality and consistency.
  • All other duties and tasks assigned by the direct supervisor or manager.

Qualifications & Skills

The qualifications and skills listed below are representative of those required to complete the essential duties listed above.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data analytics, petroleum engineering, or a related field.
  • 5 years of hands-on Spotfire development experience (TIBCO Spotfire Analyst and Server).
  • Experience working with oil and gas geologic, production, completion, and drilling datasets.
  • A strong proficiency in using R or TERR for statistical modeling and custom calculations.
  • Proficiency in Python, including an understanding of data manipulation and related packages.
  • Proficiency in using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to customize Spotfire visualizations and UI.
  • Strong SQL skills (query optimization, joins, stored procedures, and data manipulation).
  • Experience building data functions, custom expressions, and IronPython scripting for interactivity.

  • Excellent communication skills for translating technical results into business value.
  • Ability to work in cross-functional teams (data, IT, engineering, field operations).
  • Self-starter with strong attention to detail and documentation.
  • Familiarity with data modeling and ETL workflows relevant to oil and gas operations.
  • Understanding of operational metrics like production rates, downtime, well status, etc.
