Mechanic (Landscape Shop Technician)

Job Summary

We are seeking a motivated and skilled Mechanic (Landscape Shop Technician) to join our team. The Shop Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing a wide range of company vehicles, fleet equipment, landscape equipment, small engines, 2-cycle equipment, and electrical systems.

This position requires strong mechanical knowledge, attention to detail, good judgment, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities may vary from day to day based on the needs of the business and assigned jobs. The successful candidate will help ensure company vehicles and equipment remain safe, reliable, and in optimal working condition.

Essential Duties, Responsibilities, Skills and Competencies

• Diagnose, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair company vehicles, fleet equipment, landscape machinery, small engines, 2-cycle equipment, and electrical systems.
• Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance to ensure equipment remains safe, reliable, and operational.
• Repair and maintain landscape equipment, including mowers, trimmers, blowers, edgers, and other power equipment.
• Perform electrical diagnostics and repairs, including troubleshooting wiring, electrical components, and system failures.
• Use schematics, technical manuals, diagnostic tools, hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment to accurately identify and resolve mechanical and electrical issues.
• Utilize FleetRock software to create, update, track, and document repair and maintenance jobs, including job status, work performed, parts used, and completion of repairs.
• Maintain accurate equipment service and repair records and ensure all job information is entered into FleetRock and other company systems as required.
• Communicate with supervisors regarding equipment needs, defects, repair recommendations, safety concerns, and repair status.
• Prioritize and manage multiple repair and maintenance projects while staying focused on completing work efficiently and accurately.
• Order necessary parts and supplies and create purchase orders as required.
• Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and properly functioning shop, including all shop equipment and tools.
• Assist with the installation, removal, replacement, and transportation of equipment, including heavy lifting and manual handling as required.
• Apply decals and company branding to equipment when necessary.
• Work independently with minimal supervision while also maintaining productive working relationships with the repair team and other departments.
• Demonstrate strong decision-making, problem-solving, organization, and time-management skills.
• Communicate proactively, respectfully, and professionally with supervisors, coworkers, vendors, and other company personnel.
• Follow all company safety policies and procedures and ensure work is performed in a safe and professional manner.
• Maintain a high standard of attention to detail and quality workmanship.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications / Experience

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in a technical repair or mechanical function, preferably involving industry-standard landscape, fleet, agricultural, construction, or related equipment.
• Proven experience as a mechanic, service technician, or equipment technician.
• Experience in a dealership, fleet, landscape equipment, or similar repair environment preferred.
• Hands-on experience with small engines, 2-cycle equipment, electrical systems, and mechanical repairs.
• Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and specialized repair equipment.
• Ability to safely lift, move, and handle heavy equipment and components.
• Valid driver's license and ability to operate company vehicles as required.

Working Conditions

This position is performed in a shop and outdoor environment and may involve exposure to heat, cold, noise, dust, grease, fuel, chemicals, and operating equipment.

This position may require more than 40 hours per week during busier periods of the season. Flexibility and the ability to adjust priorities are required due to the changing nature of the business.

The position requires standing, bending, reaching, lifting, carrying, and other physical activities associated with equipment repair and maintenance.

A company vehicle may be provided as required for the position.

Pay Range

Based on experience, technical ability, and qualifications.

Pay: $22.00 - $30.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 – 50.0 per week
