Operational Medical Director (OMD) - EMS Services
Locations: Arlington, VA & Dulles, VA
Work Model: Hybrid (Onsite Remote)
Schedule: Part-Time / Performance-Based
Duration: 1 year Up to 4 additional years
Estimated Monthly Hours: 20 - 40 hours
Minimum Onsite Visits: 3 per month (mandatory)
The Operational Medical Director (OMD) will provide clinical leadership, medical oversight, and regulatory guidance for Emergency Medical Services (EMS) operations supporting the Fire & Rescue Department (FRD) at MWAA airports.
The Medical Director will oversee EMS protocols, credentialing, clinical quality assurance, pharmacy compliance, training programs, and disaster preparedness while ensuring compliance with Virginia EMS regulations and national EMS standards.
This is not a shift-based clinical role but a strategic oversight and medical governance position responsible for maintaining the highest standards of pre-hospital patient care.

- Virginia EMS Physician Endorsement
Candidate must meet one of the following:
- Board Certified in Emergency Medicine
- Board Certified in Family Medicine
- Board Certified in Internal Medicine
- Board Certified in Surgery
Required Certifications
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Minimum 5 years recent experience as:
- EMS Medical Director
- Operational Medical Director
- EMS Clinical Leadership role
- Experience must include:
- EMS protocol development
- Clinical oversight of EMS operations
- Provider credentialing and training
- Regulatory compliance management
- Pre-hospital emergency medical systems
- Ability to obtain Airport SIDA Security Clearance
- Experience working with Fire & Rescue EMS agencies
- Knowledge of National Incident Management System (NIMS) and Incident Command System (ICS)
- Provide clinical leadership for EMS operations
- Maintain EMS regulatory compliance and licensure
- Develop and review medical protocols
- Oversee training and continuing education
- Manage EMS pharmacy operations
- Serve as medical liaison with hospitals and regulators
- Participate in emergency response planning
