This role involves managing R&D tax credit engagements, providing technical tax advice, leading client projects, and supporting business development initiatives. The position requires collaboration with leadership and hands-on involvement in client engagements and project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage R&D tax credit engagements across multiple clients and industries
- Conduct client site visits, analyze financial/accounting data, and prepare cost and tax computation schedules
- Oversee preparation of R&D credit studies and technical documentation
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring delivery within scope, timeline, and budget
- Review amended tax returns and ensure compliance with federal and state regulations
- Research R&D tax laws, regulations, and relevant court cases
- Support business development efforts including proposals and client pursuits
- Collaborate with internal leadership and cross-functional teams
- Mentor and guide team members on project execution and technical matters
- Maintain strong client relationships and provide high-quality service
- Active CPA or JD/active attorney license (required) (EA not acceptable)
- 6-10 years of experience in R&D tax credits (or Fixed Assets / Tax Accounting Methods)
- Minimum 4 years in public accounting or consulting (tax/accounting)
- Strong understanding of federal and state R&D tax regulations and case law
- Experience with amended tax returns and tax return mechanics
- Proven project management experience
- Ability to manage multiple engagements and meet deadlines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Expertise in R&D tax credit methodologies and documentation
- Knowledge of tax compliance, return mechanics, and amendments
- Strong analytical and financial data interpretation skills
- Effective time management and multitasking abilities
- Strong leadership and team coordination skills
- Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) in: Economics, Statistics, Finance, Mathematics, Engineering, Operations Research, or related fields
- Experience in Technology, Life Sciences, Manufacturing, Real Estate, Construction, Hospitality, or Non-Profit sectors
- Exposure to Fixed Asset or Tax Accounting Methods
