Job Summary
The Resident Care Associate’s role is to assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) that they are unable to perform independently, while fostering residents' independence and freedom of choice.
Key Responsibilities
1. Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)
- Assist with:
- Dressing and undressing (ensuring cleanliness and season-appropriate clothing).
- Bathing and personal hygiene (e.g., shaving, dental hygiene, nail care, hair care, foot care).
- Mobility devices (e.g., cane, walker, wheelchair, crutches), including safe transfer and ambulation techniques.
- Care of ADL devices (e.g., eyeglasses, contact lenses, hearing aids).
2. Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs)
- Provide assistance with:
- Telephone use (calls, phone repairs, and adaptive devices for hearing and vision).
- Escorting residents and coordinating internal transportation needs.
4. Health Maintenance and Monitoring Tasks
- Observe and report changes in residents’ physical, cognitive, or emotional status.
- Conduct room checks and resident rounds.
- Monitor for environmental safety hazards.
- Record incidents, errors, or accidents.
- Document resident-related events.
5. Dining Assistance
- Support a variety of tasks related to dining.
6. Activity Program
- Participate in and support the resident-centered activity program.
7. Emergency Preparedness
- Respond appropriately to emergency or disaster situations, including:
- Fire alarm protocols.
- Elopement procedures.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must communicate fluently in English.
- Satisfactorily complete required orientation and in-service training.
- Demonstrate the ability to think, act, and intervene independently in routine and emergency situations.
- Relate courteously and diplomatically with residents and staff under all circumstances.
- Work flexible hours, including participation in holiday activities.
Working Conditions
- Exposure to body fluids, infections, odors, and resident behaviors.
- Exposure to chemical/cleaning solutions.
Physical Demands
- Lift up to 50 pounds.
- Walk up to four miles daily.
- Lift, carry, stand, bend, squat, crawl, reach, and kneel using proper body mechanics for sustained periods.
- Possess functional sight and hearing senses or prosthetics that enable adequate performance.
- Demonstrate emotional stability to cope with the physical, mental, and emotional stress of the position.
Pay: $15.00 per hour
