Material Handler Job Description
Reports to: Shift Supervisor
Position Summary
A Material Handler will be responsible for efficiently, effectively, and safely handling all materials to support production and ensure there is product on hand when it is needed. Safety, quality, productivity, and strong work ethic are important to the Ventek culture.
Job Responsibilities
- Unload incoming materials and products
- Coordinate with production to determine appropriate tractor/trailer combination and appropriate load placement
- Maintain shipping and receiving documentation verifying quantities, condition, and pricing of materials when necessary
- Ensure outgoing shipments are properly packaged and documented
- Follow applicable policies, procedures and operating instructions
- Safely move materials from various storage locations, including offsite warehouse space, basement, and materials stored at vendor locations
- Follow distribution and tagging procedures as required
- Schedule irregular deliveries and receipts
- Maintain forklift and perform daily safety checks as required
- Daily forklift equipment inspections
- Coordinate re-arrangement of product and warehouse locations to achieve more efficient space for better productivity, efficiency, and safety in both warehouse and production operations
- Maintain good housekeeping practices
- Assist in physical inventory at month end, year-end, and during audits
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Wear required PPE and follow all safety procedures
- Must pass forklift operation and safety training and obtain certification
- Ability to perform the essential physical functions of the job, including but not limited to repetitive tasks, lifting up to 50 pounds, firm grasping, bending, stretching, stooping, reaching, standing for extended periods, and working in ambient summer temperatures
Qualifications:
- Minimum high school diploma or equivalent
- Previous forklift experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Being reliable and able to work independently with little guidance
- Ability to operate computers and relevant warehouse management computer software
