What are the responsibilities and job description for the Linux System Admin position at Ventechsoft Inc?
Job Title: Senior Linux Systems Administrator
Location: Minneapolis, MN (Hybrid/On-site)
Experience Level: Senior (10 Years)
Type: Full-Time
Position Overview
We are seeking a seasoned Senior Linux Systems Administrator with a decade of experience to join our infrastructure team in Minneapolis. In this role, you won''t just be managing servers; you’ll be the architect of our stability and the driver of our automation strategy.
The ideal candidate has survived the "Wild West" days of manual configuration and has emerged as an expert in modern, automated, and scalable infrastructure. If you can debug a kernel panic in your sleep and treat "Infrastructure as Code" as a lifestyle rather than a buzzword, we want to talk to you.
Key Responsibilities
System Architecture & Maintenance: Design, implement, and maintain high-availability Linux environments (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu, or Debian) across physical, virtual, and cloud platforms.
Automation & Orchestration: Lead the transition from manual tasks to automated workflows using tools like Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.
Security & Compliance: Hardening systems against vulnerabilities, managing SELinux policies, and ensuring compliance with industry standards (SOC2, HIPAA, or PCI-DSS).
Performance Tuning: Monitor system health and optimize performance for high-traffic applications, deep-diving into I/O, memory, and CPU bottlenecks.
Mentorship: Act as a technical escalation point for junior and mid-level admins, fostering a culture of technical excellence.
Disaster Recovery: Develop and test robust backup and recovery strategies to ensure 24/7 business continuity.
Required Qualifications
Experience: 10 years of professional experience in Linux/Unix System Administration.
Scripting Mastery: Expert-level proficiency in Bash and at least one high-level language (e.g., Python, Ruby, or Go).
Networking: Deep understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, SSH, Load Balancers, and Firewalls (iptables/firewalld).
Virtualization & Containers: Proven experience with VMware/KVM and containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
Cloud Integration: Significant experience managing Linux workloads in AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
Storage: Familiarity with SAN/NAS, LVM configuration, and NFS/Samba file sharing.
Preferred Skills
Certifications: RHCE (Red Hat Certified Engineer) or LFCS (Linux Foundation Certified SysAdmin).
CI/CD: Experience integrating infrastructure changes into Jenkins or GitLab CI pipelines.
Local Presence: Familiarity with the Minneapolis tech ecosystem and ability to commute to our downtown/metro office.
