Mainframe Software Engineer
Overview / Summary:
Responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining software applications and products to meet business and customer needs. Involved in the full software development lifecycle, including architecture design, coding, testing, and deployment. This role also requires collaboration across teams, Agile participation, and support of mainframe-based systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, test, and maintain software applications and products
- Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including architecture, coding, testing, and deployment
- Develop software using mainframe technologies including COBOL, DB2, JCL, IMS DB/DC, and MQ Series
- Apply knowledge of business processes and priorities to develop effective solutions
- Champion Agile practices, participate in Agile ceremonies, and facilitate team collaboration
- Develop high-quality minimum viable products through iterative processes
- Prioritize, groom, and maintain the product backlog
- Balance business priorities, user needs, and technical feasibility to manage risks
- Monitor, operate, and support mainframe-based applications across regions
- Manage and align interdependencies across multiple projects
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- 10 years of IT experience with at least 5 years in development
- Hands-on experience with IBM DB2, COBOL, and mainframe systems
- Experience with mainframe tools such as SELCOPY, SORT, BMC DB2 Tools, Fault Analyzer, Application Performance Analyzer, REXX, File Manager, Endeavor, CA7, and debugging tools
- Experience working in Agile environments and participating in Agile ceremonies
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to manage complex initiatives, including integration, risks, and issues
