Responsibilities Of The CNC Programmer Aerospace Casting
- Develop, validate, and maintain CNC programs for milling, turning, and multi-axis machining centers.
- Interpret engineering drawings, 3D CAD models, and GD&T according to aerospace standards.
- Ensure all programming activities comply with AS9100 requirements for documentation, traceability, and configuration control.
- Create machining strategies that account for casting variability while maintaining strict dimensional tolerances.
- Select appropriate tooling, feeds, speeds, and cutting strategies for aerospace materials and critical features.
- Participate in First Article Inspection processes in accordance with AS9102 requirements.
- Support process validation including capability studies such as Cp and Cpk.
- Maintain program documentation, revision history, and change control records.
- Collaborate with Quality, Engineering, and Production teams to resolve nonconformances and implement corrective actions.
- Support internal and external audits including customer, regulatory, and accreditation bodies.
- Develop machining programs for near-net shape investment castings with variable stock allowances. Account for casting tolerances, distortion, and metallurgical characteristics. Coordinate with foundry and quality teams regarding casting defects such as porosity, inclusions, and shrinkage.
- Ensure machining of critical features and key characteristics meets engineering and customer requirements.
- Support control of special processes in alignment with NADCAP requirements including heat treat, NDT, and coatings.
- Maintain full traceability of parts, materials, tooling, and machining programs.
- Associate degree or higher in Manufacturing, Engineering, or related technical field preferred.
- 3 5 years of CNC programming experience in aerospace or precision manufacturing environments.
- Experience machining cast components strongly preferred.
- Experience working within AS9100-certified manufacturing environments preferred.
- Familiarity with ERP or MRP systems and digital manufacturing travelers.
- CAM programming software including Mastercam, NX, Fusion 360, or similar.
- Multi-axis CNC machining (3-axis, 4-axis, 5-axis).
- GD&T and aerospace drawing interpretation.
- Aerospace material machining including stainless steel, titanium, and nickel-based alloys.
- Statistical Process Control (SPC) and process capability analysis.
- CNC program documentation and revision control.
