What are the responsibilities and job description for the ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING DESIGNER position at VEC, Inc.?
The Electrical Engineering Designer, with some supervision from the senior staff, will provide electrical analysis, design and drafting skills for lighting, power and associated control systems, and low voltage systems such as IT and fire alarm for new construction and/or renovation of industrial, commercial, educational, governmental, and healthcare structures in conformance to client requirements and applicable codes.

- Possess / demonstrate the engineering knowledge and understanding to design and analyze electrical systems for the installation, interconnection, and control of architectural, electrical and mechanical components.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical drawings, schematics, and technical specifications
- Proficiency in Autodesk Products such as Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks, Bluebeam, and Assemble
- Using applicable codes and standards, design lighting and power distribution systems, low voltage systems (e.g. fire alarm systems, telecommunications/data networks, lighting control systems, power monitoring systems, etc.), and sizing of equipment
- Experience with clash detection and multidisciplinary coordination
- Communicate and work with all other disciplines to produce coordinated construction documents
- Familiarity with prefabrication workflows and model-based electrical installations
- Able to adhere to project quality, budget, and schedule.
- Prepare feasibility studies and schematic design packages of lighting, power systems, etc.
- Possess / demonstrate the graphic ability to produce construction documents per company and client standards
- Conduct field measuring and checking at the project site
- Maintain organized project file containing project calculations, schedules, correspondence, appropriate reference materials, etc.
- With assistance, edit and draft project specifications
- Review project submittals (shop drawings) for conformance with contract documents; specify action required for conformance
- Respond to RFIs
- Coordinate with other design professionals
- Perform related duties as assigned
- Associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (Construction Management) required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
- 3-5 years of experience in electrical engineering field
- Construction experience preferred
