What are the responsibilities and job description for the Azure Data Platform Architect position at VDart, Inc.?
Job Title: Azure Data Platform Architect
Mode: Dallas, TX 75206 HYBRD 3 DAYS
Duration: 6 month, CTH
The Azure Data Platform Architect is responsible for designing, building, and scaling the organization’s Azure-based cloud and data ecosystem. This role owns the end‑to‑end Azure architecture—from core cloud foundations through data platforms, analytics, and BI—supporting the organization’s transition from on‑premise systems to a modern Azure-first architecture.
Key Responsibilities
Azure Cloud & Platform Architecture
· Architect and design Azure-first cloud environments, including landing zones, identity, security, networking, storage, and governance foundations
· Lead on‑prem to Azure migration strategy, including workload assessment, platform design, and phased modernization
· Define architectural standards for deploying, scaling, and securing workloads across cloud and hybrid environments
· Provide technical leadership on Azure services spanning infrastructure, data, integration, and analytics
Data Platform & Analytics Architecture
· Design and build enterprise data platforms across Azure services, including lakehouse, warehouse, and analytics layers
· Define standards for data ingestion, transformation, storage, and access using Azure-native and cloud-based services
· Establish architectural patterns for batch, streaming, and API‑based integration
· Develop a long‑term roadmap for lakehouse, warehouse, and semantic models, with emphasis on scalability and performance
· Architect and support Microsoft Fabric / Fabric Connect and related Azure analytics services as part of the reporting ecosystem
· Enable enterprise reporting and BI platforms (e.g., Power BI), while downstream analysts execute and manage reports
Governance, Security & Scalability
· Ensure platform architecture aligns with governance, security, regulatory, and compliance requirements (e.g., NERC/FERC preferred but not required)
· Embed security, access control, metadata, and lineage capabilities into Azure and data platform designs
· Partner with governance and data engineering teams to operationalize architectural standards and best practices
Future-State Data Architecture (as the platform matures)
· Contribute to the long-term vision for data domains and master data architecture, recognizing this as a later-phase capability
· Define integration patterns between source systems, analytics platforms, and future data management solutions
Qualifications
Required
· 5 years of experience in Azure architecture, cloud architecture, or senior data engineering roles with strong Azure ownership
· Hands-on experience designing and building Azure cloud environments, not just consuming existing ones
· Strong understanding of Azure-native data and analytics services and modern data architecture patterns
· Experience designing scalable, secure data platforms (lakehouse, warehouse, analytics ecosystems)
· Solid grasp of enterprise and cloud integration patterns (batch, streaming, APIs)
· Ability to think in platforms and roadmaps, not just tools or projects
Preferred
· Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse, Databricks, or Snowflake in cloud-first environments
· Experience supporting enterprise BI and semantic models (Power BI, Tableau, Looker)
· Exposure to data governance practices, metadata management, and regulatory environments
Experience collaborating with security, infrastructure, and governance teams in regulated industries
