About Vault Academy
Vault Academy is a Cognia-accredited 501(c)(3) education and workforce development organization delivering career-technical certification programs to high school students. Our FAA Part 107 drone certification pathway provides students with direct, hands-on exposure to unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) operation, serving as a foundation for aviation and technology careers.
Position Summary
Vault Academy is seeking a certified drone instructor to lead hands-on UAS training for a cohort of approximately seven high school students. This is a practical, flight-focused course designed to build foundational operator skills and introduce students to the FAA Part 107 framework.
Schedule: Mondays, 3:30 PM – 4:30 PM
Duration: 10–12 weeks
Location: In-person, Hagerstown, MD
Compensation: Commensurate with experience
Responsibilities
- Deliver weekly hands-on drone flight instruction to a small cohort (7 students)
- Teach pre-flight planning, safe operation, and basic maneuvering of UAS equipment
- Reinforce FAA Part 107 regulatory concepts (airspace, safety, operating rules) in age-appropriate terms
- Maintain a safe training environment and enforce equipment handling protocols
- Track student progress and provide feedback to the program coordinator
- Adhere to Vault Academy's approved curriculum and lesson sequencing
Qualifications
- Required: FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate
- Prior experience operating UAS/drone equipment in a professional or instructional setting
- Comfort working with high school-aged students in a classroom or training environment
- Strong communication skills and the ability to translate technical concepts for beginners
- Must be able to pass a background check required for working with minors
Preferred
- Prior teaching, coaching, or youth program experience
- Background in aviation, engineering, or a related technical field
Job Type
Part-time, contract — one session per week for the program duration.
