Position Purpose:
The Assistant Vice President of Human Resources provides strategic and operational human resource leadership for all employees of Vaughn College. This position, reporting to the Vice President of Finance and Business Services, requires an individual who will be a collaborator, effective communicator, and a transformational leader. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a record of innovation in progressive management responsibilities and technical expertise in human resources. The AVP of HR will be responsible for all facets of human resources and organizational development, including but not limited to: employee relations, compensation, recruitment, organizational development, benefits, policy development, strategic planning, and training.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Education and Training:
- Develop and implement effective employee relations policies and professional development on a campus-wide level.
- Provide management training to all supervisors and work in consultation with managers in resolving employee concerns.
- Develop campus-wide feedback opportunities to improve the quality and effectiveness of managerial oversight and plans for performance improvement.
- Provide the faculty and staff of Vaughn College with support for their health and wellness, including health benefit fairs, oversight of the employee assistance program, employee recognition events, and other initiatives that provide additional support to all employees.
Strategic HR Guidance to the Institution:
- Provide expertise in strategic planning, organizational development and structure as it relates to human resources.
- Ensure that the institution is following equitable policies and practices in terms of organizational structure, job classification, performance evaluations and salary structure to provide the institution with guidance about continuous improvement. This position is also expected, along with support from outside counsel, to ensure that the institution remains in compliance with all city, state and federal requirements.
Oversight of Policy and Procedure:
- Consult with managers regarding employee performance concerns; assist managers with performance tools, including written documentation and performance improvement plans.
- Work closely with legal counsel to ensure that the College’s practices follow federal, state, and city laws and regulations. Conduct investigations concerning employee incidents.
- Act as a Deputy Title IX Coordinator and assist the Title IX Coordinator in ensuring the institution complies with federal, state, and city Title IX regulations.
- Transform and sustain processes and policies to ensure efficiency, use of technological resources, and equity.
Manage the Office of Human Resources:
- Supervise the human resource staff, prepare the annual budget, participate in the annual assessment process.
- Oversee payroll and benefit packages, including renewals of medical, dental, life insurance, and disability.
- Provide reporting for outside agencies as well as manage annual audits.
- Responsible for unemployment insurance, worker’s compensation, and disability reporting and oversight.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in human resources, business, organizational development, or related field required. Master's degree preferred.
- SHRM or PHR Certification highly preferred.
- 10 years of progressive human resource leadership experience with emphasis on employee relations.
- Strong knowledge of HR best practices and employment law. Higher education experience preferred.
Compensation
The entry level compensation for this position is expected to range between $110,000 - $125,000.
