About the Role
The R&D Engineer will report to the Chief Technology Officer. The role is on site at Vartega’s Denver, CO location. The R&D Engineer will support the development of next-generation recycling processes at Vartega. These processes include mechanical and chemical recycling methods and thermoplastic compounding with carbon fiber recovered from recycling processes. The role is hands-on and involves working independently and alongside technicians on research and development projects and objectives. Analyzing and reporting results and outcomes of projects is a critical component of the R&D Engineer’s role.
Role and Responsibilities
The role will involve:
- Developing and carrying out experiments independently and with a team
- Leading the team of R&D technicians
- Leading the transition of R&D processes into operations
- Interpreting and reporting experimental results
- Mechanical and chemical recycling development
- Thermoplastic compounding development
- Injection molding development
- Mechanical testing of thermoplastics
- Troubleshooting processes and manufacturing R&D equipment
- Reporting experimental parameters and results across functions at Vartega
- Documenting the entire research process and results
Requirements
- Independent experimental and troubleshooting skills
- Familiarity with documenting work via a lab notebook and reporting results in lab reports
- Ability to generate new processes, adapt existing methods, and learn new processes
- Ability to train others in processes
- Experience troubleshooting processes and manufacturing equipment
- Capable of multi-tasking and working both as part of a team and independently
- Must be self-directed and have the ability to work independently and with little supervision
- The ability to work with various personalities and remain calm and courteous in all situations
- Strong problem-solving and problem-resolution skills
- Written and verbal communication skills
- Attentive to detail and well-organized
- Agile and able to adapt to changing circumstances
- Must be able to work flexible hours depending on the needs of the business
Preferred Education and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field
- Associate degree in engineering or related technical field and 2 years of experience
