What are the responsibilities and job description for the Occupational Therapist position at Variety Child Learning Center?
Variety Child Learning Center (VCLC) is a not-for-profit agency providing quality educational and therapeutic services to young children with disabilities. Our Facilities are located in Syosset, NY, Levittown, NY and East Northport, NY. Our school operates 12 months/year.
We are currently accepting applications for a Full-time Occupational Therapist (OT). The OT works with children to improve their engagement in an academic settings and help young children with disabilities achieve his or her best physical and/or mental functioning in daily life tasks according to each child's IFSP or IEP.
Essential Functions:
- Review pertinent evaluations and medical history. Review each student's IEP prior to providing first treatment and preferably prior to the first day of school. Ensure that the physician's prescription is current prior to the beginning of therapy. Periodically review the IEP to ensure that OT services are being implemented correctly.
- Assess informally and formally each child's progress toward goal acquisition.
- Document treatment including progress on daily session notes, quarterly progress notes, yearly evaluations and updating of IEPs. Write required reports documenting each child's progress and current level of functioning, including strengths and needs. Submit treatment log notes according to VCLC timeline requirements.
- Communicate and collaborate with families as needed to discuss the child's progress and needs (including but not limited to beginning of year introduction, fall and spring parent meetings, ongoing updates, and support).
- Communicate and consult with classroom team to provide regular updates on child's progress in therapy and facilitate carry-over of occupational therapy interventions and activities in the classroom.
- Ensure all missed sessions are made up. SED requires 100% of sessions missed due to therapist absences be made up in a timely manner (30-day period). It is expected that each therapist will make every attempt to make up their missed sessions, however other staff may be required to assist. SED requires that EVERY attempt be made to make up sessions due to children's legal absences.
- Participate in the interdisciplinary team meetings, collaborating with the teacher, other therapists, and staff members to ensure that a comprehensive educational plan is in place to meet the child's individual needs.
- Perform such other tasks as may seem to be appropriate
We require a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy and a current NYSED registration as an Occupational Therapist.
Hours are typically 8:00am-3:30pm; Monday - Friday.
