Job Summary
The Avionics and Electrical Systems Installations Engineer is responsible for supporting Textron’s complete product development lifecycle across piston, turboprop, and jet aircraft. This includes involvement in new product development, production line operations, field support for legacy aircraft, and aftermarket enhancements.
The primary objective is to ensure avionics and electrical system installations meet environmental, functional, weight, cost, and structural requirements—aligned with the highest levels of safety and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Create engineering drawings for avionics and electrical equipment installations and wire harnesses using CATIA V6.
- Support wiring diagram and harness assembly development using Mentor Graphics.
- Prepare technical documents including test plans, conformity requests, functional tests, and compliance reports.
- Provide production and field support involving design evaluations, troubleshooting, and root-cause/corrective action analysis.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering teams, customer service, supply chain, flight test, and airworthiness groups.
- Perform advanced avionics and electrical integration analysis, applying mechanical engineering principles.
- Prepare certification documentation including certification plans, ground/flight test plans, and certification reports ensuring compliance with 14 CFR Part 23/25.
- Conduct system-level analysis such as Functional Hazard Assessments (FHA) and System Safety Assessments (SSA).
- Support process improvements and development of engineering tools within the team.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline (Required).
- Prior experience in mechanical, avionics, or electrical engineering is preferred.
Job Qualifications
- Experience with avionics/electrical system design per CFR 14 Part 23/25 desired.
- Strong proficiency in CATIA (preferably CATIA V6) for component and assembly design.
- Experience using wiring and harnessing tools such as Mentor Graphics preferred.
- Strong knowledge of electrical wiring, harness manufacturing, and EWIS principles.
- Experience with ENOVIA or other PLM systems preferred.
- Excellent communication skills with strong technical writing ability.
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects with varying scope.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); Visio preferred.
- Knowledge of electrical bonding criteria, cooling requirements for electronic equipment, EMI shielding, HIRF/IEL compliance is considered a plus.
