HVAC Controls Project Manager

The Role
The HVAC Controls Project Manager is responsible for leading HVAC controls projects from planning through completion, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget.
This role requires strong project management skills, an understanding of HVAC controls systems, and the ability to coordinate teams, manage customer relationships, and oversee successful project execution.
Projects include commercial buildings, hospitals, refineries, high-rise and multifamily developments, data centers, and other complex facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead HVAC controls projects from kickoff through final completion.
- Coordinate project teams, technicians, subcontractors, vendors, and customers.
- Develop project schedules, timelines, responsibilities, and execution plans.
- Manage project documentation, reporting, and communication requirements.
- Conduct pre-job planning meetings and track completion of action items.
- Maintain project schedules and ensure alignment with overall project timelines.
- Review project status, budgets, costs, and contract requirements.
- Provide regular project updates and cost analysis to leadership.
- Review estimates and ensure accurate project cost tracking.
- Manage scope changes and verify project adjustments.
- Support subcontract agreements and equipment procurement activities.
- Prepare and submit monthly project billings to support cash flow.
- Identify project risks and resolve issues with customers, vendors, trades, and internal teams.
- Communicate project challenges and solutions to appropriate leadership.
- Visit job sites, review progress, perform inspections, and address project issues.
- Build strong customer relationships and support long-term partnerships.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and operational efficiency.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Sciences, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering field required.
- 2-5 years of project management experience.
- Experience with HVAC controls, building automation systems, or mechanical construction projects preferred.
- Strong understanding of controls project workflows and construction processes.
- Ability to coordinate multiple teams and manage competing priorities.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong presentation and customer-facing abilities.
- Proactive approach with the ability to take ownership of projects.
- Experience with HVAC controls platforms and systems is preferred, but candidates do not need to have the same level of technical depth as a controls technician.
