Position Summary:
The Custom Quotes Machinist is responsible for producing custom, made-to-order wood components by operating CNC machinery and other equipment within the machine room. This role focuses on non-standard, custom quote orders that require precision, attention to detail, and the ability to interpret unique specifications and drawings. The ideal candidate is adaptable, quality-driven, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, custom manufacturing environment.
Position Responsibilities:
Set up, operate, and monitor CNC machines to cut and shape wood components for custom quote orders
Interpret work orders, shop drawings, and specifications to ensure accurate production of custom parts
Adjust machine settings, tooling, and programs as needed to meet unique job requirements
Collaborate with engineering, design, and production teams to clarify specifications and resolve issues
Inspect finished components to ensure they meet quality standards and dimensional accuracy
Troubleshoot machine or material issues and make necessary corrections in real time
Maintain organization of custom jobs to ensure priority orders are completed on time
Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of CNC machines and work area
Follow all safety procedures and guidelines within the machine room
Essential Skills and Experience:
Experience in furniture manufacturing or custom woodworking
Familiarity with CNC programming or editing (e.g., G-code)
Experience working with custom quote or engineered-to-order products
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, or CAD files
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality craftsmanship
Basic understanding of machine setup, tooling, and material properties
Ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve independently
Comfortable working with custom, one-off, or short-run production orders
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Physical demands and work environment:
Lift / Carry: lift up to 50 lbs.; team lift greater weights. Most of the weight is moved by some type of equipment: hand truck, forklift, and team lift.
Manual Dexterity: The ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or maneuver objects.
Standing/Walking: Must be able to stand and walk 8 hours.
Reach / Handle: Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials, and manipulating things.
Crouch/Bend/Stoop/Kneel/Crawl: Frequently required when moving a furniture item.
Push / Pull: Frequently moving furniture items on/off pack conveyor or tables or sliding across floor.
Automation: Conveyor system, battery operated pallet jack used for positioning when needed.
Near Vision: The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
Static Strength: The ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects.
Trunk Strength: The ability to use your abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time without 'giving out' or fatiguing.
