Under the supervision of the Program Head or Department Chairperson, the Early Childhood Education Instructor at Vance-Granville Community College is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction, fostering student success, and contributing to the ongoing development of the Early Childhood Education program. The instructor will support the mission of the college by preparing students for careers in early childhood settings through engaging, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate teaching practices.
Teleworking
This position is assigned to the VGCC Franklin Campus in Louisburg, NC; however, some travel to other counties in the college’s service area is possible. Consistent with VGCC’s Teleworking Policy, this position is eligible for up to 2 days per week of telework after the first 9 months of employment in this position.

- Teach assigned Early Childhood Education courses in accordance with approved curriculum and course outlines.
- Develop and implement course materials, including syllabi, lesson plans, assessments, and instructional resources that reflect current research and best practices in early childhood education.
- Utilize diverse instructional strategies, including technology integration and active learning, to meet the needs of all learners.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, academic progress, and grades.
- Collaborate with the Program Head and faculty team to assess and improve curriculum and program outcomes.
- Participate in program review, accreditation processes, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Recommend instructional materials, textbooks, and resources to support student learning and program goals.
- Engage in course design or redesign as needed to ensure content, materials, and instruction methods are current and appropriate.
- Maintain a minimum of five posted office hours per week for student advising and support.
- Assist students with course selection, career planning, and academic progress.
- Engage in ongoing professional development to remain current with trends and research in early childhood education.
- Participate in college committees, meetings, and professional organizations.
- Contribute to community outreach and service activities that promote the Early Childhood Education program and support local early learning initiatives.
- Develop and teach online and hybrid courses using the college’s learning management system.
- Maintain course websites and utilize digital tools to enhance instruction and communication.
- Assume other duties as assigned by the Program Head/Department Chair/Dean.
- Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or related field.
- Experience with teaching in Early Childhood Education and K-12 classrooms.
- Experience with Moodle learning management system and Watermark administrative platform preferred, not required
- Light work that includes moving objects up to 20 pounds.
- Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
