Under the general supervision of and in consultation with the Program Director, coordinates clinical placement, collaboration, and lab organization. Responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining a clinical education program in accordance with nursing program standards. This is a 12-month faculty position. Assist in the recruitment and selection of clinical instructors. Responsible for testing and evaluating students, assisting in curriculum design, creating clinical schedules for students, supervising, training clinical instructors, and instructing students in the classroom, laboratory, and clinical site.

The Clinical Education Coordinator plays a vital role in developing, implementing, and managing clinical and lab education. This position involves collaborating with clinical staff, educators, and students to ensure comprehensive training and ongoing professional development. The coordinator will serve as a key resource in fostering educational excellence within the healthcare environment, supporting both academic and clinical objectives.

Teleworking

This position is assigned to the VGCC Henderson Campus in Henderson, NC; however, some travel to other counties in the college’s service area is possible. Consistent with VGCC’s Teleworking Policy, this position is eligible for up to 2 days per week of telework after the first 9 months of employment in this position.

  • Pursues continuous improvement in clinical and laboratory education through ongoing professional development, evaluation of teaching methods, and integration of current evidence-based practices and educational technology.
  • Designs, implements, and evaluates inclusive, equitable clinical and lab learning experiences that promote safe practice and maximize student learning outcomes.
  • Ensures alignment of all clinical and laboratory content with accrediting agencies, and program-level outcomes and competencies.
  • Adheres to departmental course and clinical guidelines, ensuring all clinical and laboratory experiences meet program outcomes and regulatory standards.
  • Collaborates with faculty to ensure clinical evaluation tools align with course objectives, clinical judgment rubrics, and the NCLEX test plan.
  • Fulfills the duties of a clinical and lab instructor by supervising students in patient care settings, skills labs, and simulation environments.
  • Evaluates student performance using established rubrics and provides timely feedback to support progression and remediation as needed.
  • Provides leadership and oversight of all assigned clinical instructors, including recruitment, interviewing, onboarding, training, and performance evaluation.
  • Plans and directs clinical and lab schedules, site assignments, and student placements in collaboration with the Program Director and site partners.
  • Serves as liaison between the nursing program and clinical affiliates to maintain compliance with contracts and ensure quality student experiences.
  • Coaches and supports clinical instructors through regular performance feedback, classroom observations, and professional development plans.
  • Establishes measurable goals for instructional excellence and monitors progress toward departmental standards.
  • Ensures resources are inventoried, maintained, and utilized efficiently to support teaching and learning.
  • Collaborates with the Student Success Center and faculty advisors to support student academic and clinical success, progression, and retention.
  • Participates in remediation meetings and student success planning for those not meeting course or clinical benchmarks.
  • Attends required training, workshops, and continuing education to enhance instructional and leadership skills.
  • Fosters a welcoming and professional environment for students, faculty, and clinical partners.
  • Maintains confidentiality of student and institutional information in compliance with FERPA and college policy.

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited institution.
  • Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina.
  • Minimum of two years of full-time clinical nursing experience.
  • Must obtain a graduate degree in nursing from an accredited institution within 5 years.
  • Prior to or within the first three years of employment, completion of education in teaching and learning principles for adult education, including curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation, as required by the NCBON.
  • Ability to meet the physical and emotional demands of clinical instruction.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Education and Experience Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in Nursing or current enrollment in a Master’s in Nursing program.
  • Previous teaching experience in a nursing program, preferably at the community college level.
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate technology into instructional environments.
  • Light work that includes moving objects up to 30 pounds.
  • Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
