GIS Analyst - Wildfire Hazard and Interactive Mapping

Hudson Environmental LLC is seeking a skilled GIS Analyst to support the development of a county-wide Wildfire Hazard Analysis and help build an interactive vegetation treatment portal. This role works under the direction of the Project Manager and in close collaboration with the Fire Behavior Analyst (FBAN), stakeholders, and the client’s GIS team. While not a lead role, the GIS Analyst is a key contributing partner responsible for high-quality geospatial products.
Responsibilities
- Support the Project Manager and Fire Behavior Analyst in developing the Wildfire Hazard Analysis
- Produce polished, public-ready maps for reports and community outreach
- Collaborate with the client’s GIS specialist to create a long-term interactive vegetation treatment portal
- Develop StoryMaps, GIS storyboards, and other interactive mapping tools
- Translate complex geospatial data into clear visuals for non-GIS audiences
- Assist team members and stakeholders with limited GIS experience
- Maintain workflows, metadata, and cartographic standards
- Identify data gaps and provide proactive GIS solutions
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources, Forestry, Environmental Science, Geography, or related field
- GIS degree, certificate, or equivalent training
- Proven GIS ability demonstrated through prior work or portfolio samples
- Experience with wildfire hazard, fuels, or risk assessments preferred
- Understanding of wildfire behavior, vegetation, and landscape planning concepts
- Proficiency with ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, StoryMaps, and Web Apps
- Strong communication skills and ability to support non-GIS users
- Collaborative, self-driven contributor who supports project leadership
