Security Technician

Job Summary:

A Security Technician installs, programs, tests, and services integrated electronic security systems, including access control, CCTV/IP cameras, and IP‑based security devices. This role requires strong technical aptitude, hands‑on problem‑solving skills, and the ability to work independently or lead small teams. Technicians must be comfortable using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment while delivering accurate, high‑quality work and maintaining strong communication with customers and team members.

Duties:

• Install, configure, and service access control systems, CCTV/IP cameras, network video recorders, and intercom systems
• Run, route, and terminate low‑voltage cabling in accordance with NEC standards and customer requirements
• Program, test, and commission security systems for proper operation
• Troubleshoot installation and system issues using electronic testing and network diagnostic tools
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, diagrams, and technical documentation
• Repair or replace defective components and perform system functionality checks
• Provide end‑user training and maintain professional communication with customers
• Lead or assist technicians to ensure productivity, safety, and timely project completion
• Complete required documentation and project paperwork accurately and on schedule

Qualifications:

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
• Minimum 3 years of experience with IP‑based camera systems
• Minimum 3 years of experience with access control systems
• At least 2 years working with IP‑addressable security devices
• Strong understanding of CCTV, access control, and basic TCP/IP networking
• Proficiency with computers, software tools, and system configuration
• Ability to analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues efficiently
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
• Certifications in AXIS, Verkada, or Brivo preferred

Equipment Used

Technicians regularly use hand and power tools (drills, cutters, crimpers, saws), cable‑pulling and termination tools, multimeters, cable testers, network testing devices, and laptops or tablets for system programming and diagnostics.
