What are the responsibilities and job description for the Employment Specialist - Direct Care position at Van Buren Community Mental Health?
EMPLOYMENT SPECIALIST needed to work with adults with disabilities to assist them in achieving their occupational goals. Employment-related supports include establishing trusting relationships with the job seeker, helping them understand their rights in the workplace, helping them to identify their strengths, goals, and talents, along with supporting them with obtaining and maintaining employment of their choice. Other supports provided include assisting with developing transportation arrangements, job coaching, follow-along services, and other needs as identified in the plan of service.
DUTIES INCLUDE:
- Assesses the experience, training, and personal qualifications of the individual.
- Assists with job search and interview process.
- Develops training and support strategies at employment sites.
- Connects individuals to training or educational programs to develop skills.
- Provides education and guidance on the impact working can have on benefits.
- Completes relevant data/paperwork including use of electronic medical record.
- Evaluates potential employment sites and explains the benefits of employment supports provided by the program to employers
- Provides customers with direction and other needed supports, such as coordination of transportation to/from work site and modeling job tasks for customer in a wide range of settings.
REQUIRES: HS Diploma/GED; working or life experience that promotes an understanding of the special needs of individuals with disabilities; strong communication skills; MI driver's license; and physical ability to do manual labor, push/lift/carry in order to assist customers with mobility needs, including loading wheelchairs into vehicles, lifting/transferring, ensuring customer safety and providing similar supports.
Position is full-time (37.5 hours per week) and may include evening/weekend hours.
