The Director of Training and Development is responsible for building, leading, and executing the agency’s full training and development function across all areas of operations. This role exists to strengthen officer readiness, improve field performance, reduce preventable turnover, protect client confidence, and ensure that all personnel are trained, developed, and held to the standards of Valor Protection Safety Agency.
This is a working leadership role for a builder. The Director of Training and Development will not simply manage scheduled trainings. This leader will be responsible for creating the training structure, developing systems, improving onboarding, increasing field preparedness, driving accountability, supporting compliance, and helping the agency establish a stronger culture of readiness, development, and operational excellence.
The ideal candidate is both strategic and practical. They must be able to develop training systems, create curriculum, organize documentation, coach staff, support supervisors, and step into the field when necessary to assess performance gaps and strengthen execution.
Essential Purpose of the RoleThe purpose of this position is to create and lead a training and development division that supports the agency’s growth, improves service quality, strengthens officer confidence, and ensures consistency across all sites, contracts, and personnel assignments.
This leader will serve as the agency’s primary authority on training, onboarding, retraining, field development, and training accountability.
Key ResponsibilitiesTraining Leadership and Department DevelopmentLead the development and structure of the agency’s training and development function
Build and implement a centralized training framework that supports all agency divisions, sites, and specialty assignments
Establish agency wide training expectations, standards, and developmental processes
Serve as the lead point of accountability for training quality, readiness standards, and professional development systems
Create a long term training strategy that supports operational growth, stronger service delivery, and leadership development across the agency
Onboarding and New Hire DevelopmentDevelop and oversee a complete onboarding and orientation process for new officers and team members
Create structured onboarding pathways that ensure employees receive proper introduction, preparation, role clarity, and performance expectations
Design and manage field readiness checklists, post assignment preparation tools, and developmental milestones for new hires
Ensure officers are properly prepared before independent deployment to client sites and assignments
Identify weaknesses in the current onboarding process and implement improvements that increase confidence, consistency, and retention
Training Program DevelopmentDesign, organize, and maintain agency training materials, lesson plans, officer development content, presentations, practical exercises, and assessments
Create training programs in areas such as professionalism, patrol practices, officer presence, report writing, customer service, de escalation, field awareness, emergency response, policy adherence, post execution, and client interaction
Develop training content for school safety personnel, residential officers, hospitality assignments, special event coverage, patrol operations, supervisors, and future leaders
Ensure all training content is professional, relevant, operationally useful, and aligned with agency standards and values
Field Training and Performance ReinforcementConduct field visits, training audits, observation reviews, and post assessments to evaluate officer preparedness and performance
Identify field deficiencies and implement corrective coaching, retraining, and development plans
Work closely with supervisors and operations leadership to ensure training is reinforced in the field and not limited to the classroom
Support the development of post specific training and site specific readiness plans across contracts
Help ensure that officers understand not only their duties, but also the level of professionalism, awareness, and service excellence expected at Valor Protection
Compliance and Training AccountabilityCreate and maintain systems for training attendance, completion records, certifications, retraining requirements, evaluations, and developmental tracking
Establish training accountability processes that support audit readiness, consistency, and leadership visibility
Develop reporting tools and dashboards that allow leadership to monitor training progress, deficiencies, overdue requirements, and trends
Ensure training documentation is complete, organized, timely, and professionally maintained
Partner with agency leadership to improve visibility into readiness, performance gaps, and compliance concerns
Leadership Support and DevelopmentSupport the development of supervisors, field leaders, and future managers through targeted leadership training and coaching
Help supervisors improve their ability to train, reinforce standards, coach officers, and hold personnel accountable
Create developmental opportunities for high potential employees who may be considered for future leadership roles
Work with executive and operations leadership to ensure training supports agency goals, expansion, quality control, and service consistency
Retention and Performance ImprovementUse training and development as a tool to reduce preventable turnover, improve role clarity, strengthen confidence, and support better job performance
Identify patterns in employee struggles, post failures, early attrition, and client complaints that can be corrected through stronger training
Develop remedial training plans for officers or teams who need additional support
Help build a culture where development, accountability, and excellence are treated as essential parts of agency operations
QualificationsBachelor’s degree in criminal justice, public safety, education, organizational development, business administration, workforce development, or a related field preferred
Equivalent professional experience in security, law enforcement, training leadership, adult learning, operations, or workforce development may be considered
Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in training, supervision, field operations, public safety, private security, education, coaching, or employee development
Demonstrated ability to create structure, develop training materials, organize systems, and support professional development
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Strong presentation, facilitation, and instructional ability
Ability to lead with professionalism, maturity, accountability, and sound judgment
Ability to travel between sites and work in both office and field environments as needed
Preferred QualificationsExperience in private security, school safety, law enforcement, corrections, public safety, or another operationally driven environment
Experience building or improving a training function in a growing organization
Experience developing supervisors or leading field based coaching efforts
Experience working with compliance tracking, readiness documentation, or performance improvement systems

Work EnvironmentThis role operates in both administrative and field environments. The Director of Training and Development will work in office settings, training settings, and active service locations across the agency. This position requires regular interaction with officers, supervisors, managers, and executive leadership and may require travel between sites to assess performance, reinforce training, and support operational needs.
