Position Title: Physician / Orthopedic Surgeon

Department: Specialty Services

Supervisor’s Title: Executive Director Physician Services

Position: Physicians including orthopedic surgeons, are responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and treating a variety of healthcare conditions presented by a diverse patient population.

 

Position Summary:

The physician will join the Valor Health Medical Group, which is a Critical Access Health System and provider multi-specialty medical group.  The group is a physician led and professionally administered group overseen by the Specialty Medical Director and Executive Director of Physician Services.  The incumbent will provide medical services within their scope of licensing, training, and credentialing for a General Orthopedic physician including assess and treat various conditions, ailments, injuries within their patient panel; examine patients, obtain medical histories, order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests; counsel patients on diet, hygiene, and preventative health care.  Coordinate treatment with other specialists for serious conditions or care outside of specialty; act as a healthcare advocate for patients; admit appropriate patients that need ongoing care.

Principal Functions and Responsibilities:

  1. Examine, assess, diagnose, and treat patients in accordance with one’s training, specialty, and privileges. 
  2. Hold clinic and see patients according to a set schedule per contracted face-to-face time. 
  3. Perform a variety of cases in the operating room according to specific background and privileges.
  4. Offer non-surgical treatment options to patients to address chronic conditions.
  5. Treat acute illnesses in a compassionate manner.
  6. Work in conjunction with orthopedic care team to achieve coordinated care that is perceived as top notch by patients.
  7. Listens carefully to patients and simplifies complex medical information and clarifies treatment choices.
  8. Network with area providers to quickly build practice.
  9. Act in a way that promotes and enhances the overall health of the patient.
  10. Accurate and timely document for medical necessity, as defined by Medical Staff Rules, patient information including medical history, clinical condition, medical interventions utilized for treatment, and plan of care.   
  11. Appropriately order diagnostic tests for diagnosis and/or treatment and conduct patient follow up as needed.
  12. Supervise and provide guidance and applicable delegation to clinical staff including, but not limited, to RN’s, LPN’s, MA’s, CNA’s, CRNA’s, Diagnostic Imaging Techs, and/or Laboratory Techs/Scientists.
  13. Address mental health and substance abuse in context of the care provided.
  14. Promote a patient-centered model of care by collaborating with the patient, specialists as needed, and other members of the healthcare team.
  15. Complete forms and records requiring physician certification on behalf of patients.
  16. Participate and review internal policies related to orthopedics.
  17. Round on inpatients admitted at Valor Health and discharge or transfer appropriately.
  18. Actively participate in Risk, Compliance, Quality, Performance Improvement, Patient Safety, and Infection Prevention programs as deemed necessary by the organization.
  19. Follow Organization Policy, Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules, and stay up to date on continuing medical education and certifications.
  20. Completes charting and documentation in a timely manner.
  21. Collaborate with nearby care facilities as appropriate directing ongoing medical care needs.
  22. Fulfill duties and responsibilities as a member of the Valor Health Medical Staff.
  23. Other duties as assigned in support of the organization.
Qualifications:

Position Qualifications/Requirements/preferences:

Required Education: MD or DO

Licensure: Licensed in the State of Idaho, DEA Registration, Idaho Pharmacy

Minimum: Board-certified or board-eligible by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons or obtain such certification within 3 years of employment.

Preferred: Board Certified in Specialty.

Certifications: Active BLS and ACLS.

Preferred Minimum Experience and Skills:  At least four years of experience preferred.

  5. Demonstrate the ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patients appropriate to their age, especially elder care.
  6. Asks significant questions, listens, is observant and manifests a strong curiosity.
  7. Uses a systemic approach and integrative medicine.
