What are the responsibilities and job description for the Purchasing Specialist position at Valleywise Health System?
This dynamic position plays a key role in supporting the healthcare organization’s non-clinical purchasing operations. Working under general supervision, the role focuses on optimizing procurement processes, managing the organization’s travel and P-Card programs, and ensuring compliance with internal policies and cost-efficiency standards. With a strong service orientation, the position acts as a trusted partner to stakeholders across departments, delivering strategic purchasing support that drives value and operational excellence.
Hourly Pay Rate: $24.00 - $35.40
Qualifications
Education:
- Requires a high school diploma or GED.
- A bachelor’s degree in business or a related field is preferred.
Experience:
- Two years of experience with travel and procurement card programs required.
- Purchasing procedure experience preferred as it relates to enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems and demonstrates an understanding of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Prior experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Must have excellent communication, organizing, time management, and interpersonal skills.
- Requires the ability to work independently with limited guidance, and to negotiate and work with professionals.
- Requires a working knowledge of contract analysis and reporting.
- Must have strong computer skills in MS Office, Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Requires the ability to read, write, and speak effectively in English.
