What are the responsibilities and job description for the Psychiatric NP / PA (3166) position at VALLEY VISTA?
We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to provide high-quality psychiatric and addiction-focused care within our substance use disorder rehabilitation program. This role is responsible for evaluating, diagnosing, and treating individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.

Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric and substance use assessments, including mental status examinations and risk evaluations
- Diagnose and treat mental health and substance use disorders using evidence-based practices
- Develop, implement, and monitor individualized treatment plans in collaboration with the care team
- Prescribe and manage medications, including psychotropic and medication-assisted treatment (MAT) protocols as appropriate
- Provide supportive therapy, counseling, and patient education related to addiction and recovery
- Monitor patient progress, adjust treatment plans, and support relapse prevention strategies
- Collaborate with physicians, therapists, nurses, case managers, and recovery staff to deliver integrated care
- Participate in intake evaluations, rounds, care planning meetings, and discharge planning
- Respond to psychiatric crises and provide appropriate intervention and stabilization
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements
Work Environment
- Inpatient and/or residential substance use treatment setting

Required:

For NP:
- Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nursing (Psychiatric/Mental Health focus preferred)
- National certification as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC)
- Active Vermont APRN and RN licensure

For PA:
- Master’s degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program
- National certification (PA-C) and active Vermont PA license

Active and unrestricted Vermont license in good standing (required for all providers)

Prescriptive authority in Vermont (consistent with licensure and regulatory requirements)

Experience in psychiatry, addiction medicine, or behavioral health
Preferred:
- Experience in substance use disorder treatment or medication-assisted treatment (MAT)
- Familiarity with detox, residential, or outpatient rehab settings
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care and co-occurring disorder treatment
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills
Licensure & Practice Note (Vermont)
- Vermont recognizes Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) as licensed providers authorized to diagnose, treat, and prescribe within their scope following appropriate education and certification
- Providers must hold applicable Vermont licensure and meet state regulatory requirements for practice
Salary : $130,000 - $140,000
