What You’ll Do
- Build and maintain positive, collaborative relationships with volunteers, members, participants, staff, and colleagues.
- Attend required staff meetings, training, and professional development sessions.
- Assist the Head Coach with daily practices, including organizing workouts, tracking attendance, and preparing meet entries and lineups.
- Attend all scheduled practices and dual meets. In the absence of the Head Coach, assume full responsibility for coaching duties, including emphasizing proper stroke mechanics and appropriate pool etiquette.
- Attend Marlin Swim Team Parents’ Club meetings and/or fundraising events as requested.
- Direct parent inquiries and escalate significant disciplinary concerns to the Head Coach.
- Actively contributes to and promotes a positive team culture, including fostering strong team spirit.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of pool regulations, emergency procedures, and the policies of the Valley Shore YMCA. Promptly report any issues, equipment needs, or maintenance concerns to management.
- Assist lifeguards with operational needs such as moving lane lines when necessary. Support deck safety by addressing hazards, including cleaning up unsafe materials during practices as needed.
- Perform other related duties and special projects assigned.
What We’re Looking For
- Minimum age 16.
- Certifications: CPR for Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid, Emergency Oxygen, and USA Swimming Coach certification. Current Lifeguard certification required.
- Skills and Experience:
- Demonstrated ability to effectively engage and communicate with individuals from diverse social and economic backgrounds.
- Understanding of inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to connect and communicate effectively with diverse individuals and groups across all social and economic backgrounds
