RESPONSIBILITIES OF A LIFEGUARD:
- Maintains active surveillance of the pool area; including all levels of the water and surrounding areas.
- Ensure safety of all members and participants in and around the pool.
- Learn valuable lifesaving skills in a leadership role.

REQUIREMENTS TO BE A LIFEGUARD:
- Minimum age of 16.
- Current YMCA Lifeguard or equivalent.
- Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods in a wide range of weather conditions.
- Communicate with others immediately when responding to an incident or an emergency.
- Ability to think in the abstract, solve problems, and make quick decisions under stress.
- Have adequate memory skills to be able to retain and apply lifeguard training knowledge.
- Ability to effectively communicate information with members, peers, and supervisors.
- Must be observant, safety conscious, and able to react calmly and quickly in an emergency.
