What are the responsibilities and job description for the Supervisor, Material Control position at Valley Metro?
The Supervisor, Materials Control is responsible for the tactical management and oversight of all warehouse material control functions to ensure the accurate, efficient, and cost-effective flow of materials from receipt through delivery to maintenance and technical teams. This position minimizes waste, maintains inventory accuracy, enforces security and safety protocols, and ensures timely availability of parts to support operational needs. The Supervisor will lead, train, and coach warehouse personnel, optimize material flow and warehouse layout, and collaborate with other departments to meet production and maintenance schedules.

May handle fiberglass or other dangerous materials.

- Equivalent to Associates degree from accredited college or university with major coursework in materials control or a closely related field
- Four (4) years of materials control or warehouse operations experience, public transit experience highly desired
- One (1) year supervisory experience
- An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties such as those listed above

- Demonstrated experience with inventory management, logistics, material handling, and freight coordination
- Proficiency in Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) systems
- Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills

- Supervises staff to include: prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff are trained; ensuring employees follow policies and procedures; making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.
- Establish and enforce stockroom security protocols and rules for entry.
- Manage daily stockroom operations, including staging, testing, returns, and obsolete part removal.
- Ensure accurate part identification, data entry, and version/design updates in the EAM system.
- Track serialized parts movement, conduct annual inventory counts, and resolve discrepancies.
- Align material availability with operational needs by collaborating across departments.
- Monitor material flow, troubleshoot availability issues, and coordinate shipments with freight companies.
- Manage vendor communications for repair returns, overhauls, and evaluations.
- Enhance warehouse layout, material flow, and safety through continuous improvement initiatives.
- Standardize procedures across shifts for consistency and efficiency.
- Source and procure parts, including prototypes, while supporting sustainable handling practices.
