Position Summary
This position is responsible for setting up and using flat grinders complete customer orders. This position is also responsible for performing final inspections to ensure there are no defects in the customer’s orders.

- Must be capable of using; calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, height gage, surf tester and depth gages.
- Must have a working knowledge of Flats department machinery and the machine’s capabilities.
- Must be able to use knife straighteners; edge bow and flatness.
- Follow grinding instructions recorded in the customer profile book and printed on the job traveler accompanying the product to be ground.
- Fill out required paperwork (QC sheets and time sheets); neatly, completely and accurately.
- Perform preventative maintenance and 5S on machines and work area.
- Change coolants and grinding stones as required.
- Coat/box/wrap blades for transport back to the customer.
- Perform 1st piece and SPC required inspection of parts as dictated by the quantity of product sharpened.
- Must be able to perform chipper knife activities; grinding; babbitting, etc.
- Interact with Director of Operations on maintaining inventory of supply items.
- Follow all company work/safety rules established by the company.
- Must be able to hone trimmers.
- Must be able to regrind sheeter knives.
- Must be able to rough in manufactured product during the manufacturing process within specified tolerances.
- Set up and rough grind razor blades.
- Train others to perform the duties the flats department.
- Must be able to finish grind work to print specifications and hold tolerances up to /- .0008”.
- Must be able to perform Blow Chopper repairs/sharpening.
- Must be capable of setting up and running surface grinders; 16X32 and Okamoto.
- Be able to assist in handling internal and external customers problems/complaints/questions upon request.
Perform such other duties as may be assigned by the Flats Department Manager.
