Summary
Valley County is looking for a Driver's License & Motor Vehicle Specialist to provide customer service and technical support to the Department of Motor Vehicles within the County Assessor’s Office. Incumbents in this position process a variety of vehicle-related transactions, such as titles of ownership and registrations, and issue driver’s licenses and REAL ID-compliant identification, all in accordance with established operating policies and procedures. Work is performed under supervision of the DMV Supervisor.

As a vital member of the team, the Driver's License & Motor Vehicle Specialist provides professional, tactful service to the public while ensuring strict compliance with Idaho statutes. This individual acts as a primary point of contact for the issuance of driver’s licenses, seasonal permits, and REAL ID-compliant identification. Their expertise extends to complex vehicle transactions, including the processing of ownership titles, registrations, and license plate renewals for all motor vehicle types.

Beyond document verification and physical vehicle inspections, this role carries significant financial and administrative weight. The Specialist serves as a cashier to collect taxes and fees, balances daily records, and coordinates with financial institutions to secure notarized contracts. By maintaining a secure inventory of state supplies and preparing essential reports, the Specialist ensures the office operates with the high level of accuracy and safety expected by the community.

The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented professional who excels under pressure and enjoys a collaborative team environment. To be successful, the individual must possess:
  • A high school diploma (or equivalent) supplemented by at least one year of clerical or financial transaction experience in a professional office setting.
  • Excellent customer service experience, including the ability to interpret and clearly explain complex Idaho State Statutes to a diverse public audience.
  • The ability to pass a comprehensive ITD background check—including fingerprinting and drug testing—and the eligibility to be bonded.
  • Proficiency in modern office software and the ability to maintain a high level of accuracy and speed during peak hours.
  • The ability to operate a cash drawer and provide accurate change to customers
  • Strong attention to detail.
